Programme Overview

Read below for an overview of the five main processes to our affiliate programme:

  1. You promote eBay.co.uk
  2. Tracking is set up
  3. You get paid
  4. Reports are made available
  5. You work within our guidelines

1. How to Promote eBay.co.uk

You can promote eBay in a variety of ways, from simply putting a banner or live eBay listings on your blog, to setting up a shopping comparison site or even building a desktop application using our API. Whatever your level of technical ability eBay has a range of great tools available for you to use.

Additionally the huge breadth of the eBay marketplace means there is always eBay content that will fit with your website, from antiques and motorcycle spares to DVD's and collectable Japanese toys - the question is not if you can promote eBay but just how quickly!

2. How Tracking Works

Tracking needs to be set up to ensure you are paid for the new users and bids/BINs you drive to eBay.co.uk. eBay's tracking system, called Rover, monitors how visitors behave on eBay.co.uk after clicking on your eBay links.

It is critical that any links you have to eBay.co.uk include Rover tracking, ensuring you are paid for every valid transaction. This tracking is automatically integrated in the banners and logos you access through the Commission Junction interface, and when using the Editor Kit and RSS. To create Rover tracked links to any page on the eBay.co.uk site use the Flexible Destination Tool.

ID Definitions:

  • CID: This is your account number with CJ, for your reference
  • PID: This is your website ID with CJ. It's the most important ID which you need for Editor Kit, Flexible Destination and RSS. You can get this from Account > WebSite Settings in CJ
  • AID: This is our ID of the banner you are using - please do not change in any tracking links
  • SID: This allows to create your own subcampaigns and test and report on different placements of links

Learn more about SID at Commission Junction (PDF).

3. Payment Details

eBay.co.uk's Affiliate Programme rewards affiliates for all new users who are referred to eBay.co.uk and subsequently become active registered users (ACRUs) within a 30-day period. You will also earn a percentage of our revenue as commission for every Bid or BIN you drive to the site. All commission is paid monthly on a tiered basis.

4. Reporting

Understanding transaction and performance metrics is essential for successful affiliates. Through the Commission Junction (CJ) interface you can measure every aspect of your eBay.co.uk campaigns and optimise your performance accordingly.

With access to detailed transaction information, you can optimise your businesses and profit from higher conversions. For example you can measure which banners have the highest click-through rates, or which landing pages are most effective at converting visitors into active registrations.
