6. Understanding Selling Fees

eBay operates a strict level playing field, which means that all sellers (occasional and high-volume) are subject to the same fees. The types of fees are as follows:
  • Insertion fee - for listing an item
  • Final Value fee - for selling an item. If your item doesn't sell there is no applicable final value fee.
  • Optional features fees (Picture Services, Seller Tools, Gallery, Listing Designer, reserve price etc depending on what you select at the time of listing.)
  • PayPal fees - PayPal charges Premier and Business accounts a small fee to receive payments.
What will it cost to sell on eBay?
The only fees you will be charged are directly related to the listing and sale of your item. These include:

1. Insertion Fee: a non-refundable fee charged to your account when you list your item on eBay. The level of this fee depends on the starting price of your item. This generally ranges between £0.15 and £2.00.

Opening Value or Reserve Price Listing Fee
£0.01 - £0.99 £0.15
£1.00 - £4.99 £0.20
£5.00 - £14.99 £0.35
£15.00 - £29.99 £0.75
£30.00 - £99.99 £1.50
£100.00 and up £2.00

2. Optional Feature Fee: optional features such as Gallery, Bold, Buy It Now, are a great way to enhance your listing and make it more attractive more buyers. The fee is dependent on the on the type of feature you use. It costs you £0.15 to use Gallery with your listing.

3. Final Value Fee: depending on what you successfully sell your item for, eBay will charge a small % of the final value in fees. This is only charged if the item sells.

Final Price Range Fee Percentage
£0 - £29.99 5.25% for the amount of the current high bid (at the listing close for auction-style listings) up to £29.99
£30.00 - £599.99 3.25% for the part of the current high bid from £30.00 up to £599.99
£600.00 and up 1.75% for the balance of the current high bid greater than £600.00

4. For example: I successfully sell a shirt for £25 and start the auction at £0.99
    Insertion fee     £0.15

    Final value fee     £1.31
    Total fees     £1.61
