How to Create a Wedding Jewelry Checklist & Timeline

Your wedding day marks a major milestone in your life, so of course you want to make it a memorable occasion. Amid visions of white taffeta and champagne toasts, you undoubtedly have thoughts about the engagement ring, wedding bands, the bride's wedding-day jewelry, gifts for each other, and gifts for the bridal party. To help you celebrate your big day, eBay has made it easier than ever to shop for engagement and wedding jewelry. Whether it's something old, something new, something borrowed, or something blue, you can find it on eBay.

Make Your Wedding Jewelry Checklist

Make Your Wedding Jewelry Checklist

If you're not sure where to begin, create a wedding jewelry checklist and calendar to keep focused.

  • Before the proposal: Before you even pop the question, you'll need to start thinking about the engagement ring. When you’re ready to purchase an engagement ring, you'll establish your budget, determine which ring style she'll love, and learn how to select a diamond. If you're expecting a proposal, you might be able to give your partner some subtle clues about your favorite ring styles.

  • 12 to 24 months before your wedding: Couples typically get engaged 12 to 24 months before their wedding date. It can take up to that much time to book your ceremony and reception location for the date and time you want. It can also take up to a year to find, purchase, properly fit, and alter a wedding gown to perfection.

  • 6 to 12 months before your wedding: Six to 12 months before your wedding you’ll need to pick out your wedding gown, which will likely set the tone of your entire wedding event and your wedding bands.

  • 4 to 5 months before your wedding: Choose your bridesmaids' dresses and your own bridal accessories, which may include pearl earrings or diamond earrings, a tennis bracelet, a jeweled tiara, hair combs, or a bedazzling brooch or pin to adorn your dress. If the rest of your wedding regalia has an antique or vintage vibe, make sure your wedding jewelry follows suit. There are thousands of great antique, vintage, and even vintage reproduction jewelry pieces on eBay to suit your budget. Remember to send your wedding bands out for engraving, if desired.

  • 2 to 3 months before your wedding: Purchase gifts to present to each other on the day of your wedding. Grooms often receive a watch or cufflinks while brides are traditionally given a pearl necklace or bracelet. Also purchase gifts for your bridal party, such as pearl bracelets or pretty choker necklaces that the bridesmaids will wear on the big day; perhaps a pair of elegant chandelier earrings for your mothers, and cufflinks and money clips for your fathers would also be appropriate.

  • 3 to 4 weeks before your wedding: Finalize your wedding day jewelry, hair jewelry, brooches, and other accessories.

  • 1 week before your wedding: Make sure your wedding day jewelry pieces sparkle and glimmer to their fullest by giving them a thorough cleaning. Next, gather all your wedding day jewelry and keep each piece safe in separate, protective jewelry pouches so that you’ll have access to everything easily when you’re getting ready on your wedding day.

Set aside time the day before your wedding, or at your rehearsal dinner, to give your bridal party their wedding jewelry gifts, and present your mom and dad their wedding day gifts, too. Take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy!

Buy Wedding Jewelry With Confidence

Buy Wedding Jewelry With Confidence

Before making your purchase, make sure you know exactly what you're buying, research your seller, and understand how eBay and PayPal protect you.

Know your purchase

Carefully read the details in item listings.

  • Figure delivery costs into your final price. If you spend a lot of money, make sure the seller will insure the item when it ships.

  • If you want more information, ask by clicking the "Ask seller a question" link under the seller's profile.

  • Always make sure to complete your transaction on eBay (with a bid, Buy It Now, or Best Offer). Transactions conducted outside of eBay are not covered by eBay protection programs.

  • Never pay for your eBay item using instant cash wire transfer services through Western Union or MoneyGram. These payment methods are unsafe when paying someone you do not know.

Know your seller

Research your seller so you feel positive and secure about every transaction.

  • What is the seller's Feedback rating? How many transactions have they completed? What percentage of positive responses do they have?

  • What do buyers say in their Feedback? Did the seller receive praise?

  • Most top eBay sellers operate like retail stores and have return policies. Do they offer a money-back guarantee? What are the terms and conditions?

Buyer protection

In the unlikely event that a problem arises during your transaction, eBay and PayPal are there for you.

  • Pay safely with PayPal: PayPal enables you to pay without the seller ever seeing your bank account or credit card numbers. In fact, PayPal protects buyers 100% against unauthorized payments from their accounts. Plus, with PayPal Buyer Protection, your purchase can be covered up to $1,000.
