From collectables to cars, buy and sell all kinds of items on eBay

Seasonal sellers' guide

Christmas selling days are rapidly running out. Make the most of the time left with our seasonal sellers' tips to ensure a profitable Christmas and a great New Year.

List more for less

The improvements to Buy It Now and Shops mean you can list more of your stock for less. For example, with an Anchor Shop, Buy It Now listings cost just 1p and multiple-item listings are the same cost as single-item.

If you still haven't signed up for a new Shop, check out our fee illustrator and see the savings you could be making when you turn up the volume.

Sell smarter

Christmas is a busy time (15 million people visited eBay each month during November and December last year) and buyers are looking to get great deals quickly. Make sure you make the most of this busy time.

  • Buy-It-Now attracts buyers that are after an instant purchase. It works best for items that...
    • - are clearly competitive and great value
    • - are readily available elsewhere
    • - you have in multiple quantities

  • Auction listings work best for interesting and unique items or when the buyer is not looking for an instant purchase This works best for items that...
    • - are highly sought after
    • - are one-offs or rare
    • - have a value that is hard to define - collectibles and second hand
Offer great value
Get buyers' attention by offering great value this Christmas with these free features.
  • Markdown Manager helps you price your items for your pre or post-Christmas sales. Using Markdown Manager for your sales pricing means you'll keep your recent sales score when you revert to pre-sales prices. (Find out more about how recent sales and other factors play a part in how you appear in search results.)
  • Best Offer helps you to close sales with buyers who are looking to do a deal with you by giving you a chance to negotiate with them. You can also set up Best Offer to accept or reject buyer offers automatically based on minimum acceptable offers that you set up.
Postage & packaging and delivery
  • Be clear about postage times in your listings and give buyers confidence that they'll get their items swiftly (key dates are at the top right of this page).
  • Offer free postage - it's a great way to attract buyers in the competitive Christmas run-up.
  • Use the Get It Fast option when you're selling so that buyers know that you'll send their items quickly so that they arrive in time for Christmas.
  • In addition to using Get It Fast, use your item description to highlight your overnight or express delivery options before the last posting dates, to give buyers comfort that the item they're buying will arrive quickly.
  • Check and amend automated emails you send to make sure the postage information in them reflects the busy Christmas period.
  • Plan your visit to the Post Office in advance so you can make your time there as efficient as possible. Look at doing as much as you can online, like printing postage labels.
  • Offer gift wrapping, if you can do it without delaying postage. It could help you gain the edge over your competitors and possibly improve your detailed seller ratings (DSRs).
Don't forget...
  • Our Christmas Buyer Campaign kicked off on 3rd November promoting great value gift ideas on eBay. So take advantage of the online marketing, and national press and outdoor advertising campaign by making sure your items are keenly priced and use Item Specifics to maintain your edge so they're seen by the estimated 15m+ visitors to the site over November and December.
