December 2004
Spot new trends the moment they start with new "eBay Pulse"
Robbie Williams' Greatest Hits album topped the chart of most searched for item on eBay in the run up to Christmas - as eBay launched its new "eBay Pulse". eBay pulse is a daily snapshot of items being bought and sold on eBay.co.uk allowing you to track the most sought after items on the nation's biggest online market place.
At peak times in 2004 eBay supported 281 million searches, a figure that's constantly growing. eBay Pulse contains constantly updated, dynamic lists created from these searches. You can browse through the hottest items by category, check out the most popular searches and find the largest shops, as well as finding the highest priced and most watched items on the site.
An eBay spokesperson said, "With two million live listings on eBay.co.uk alone and more than 34 million items available worldwide, eBay has always been a barometer for what's hot and what's not. Now it's even easier - with eBay pulse, you really can keep your finger on the nation's pulse, with a simple click of the mouse."
Over Christmas the most popular search was for CDs. Robbie Williams' Greatest Hits was top of the most searched for CD's making Robbie album the most searched for item on eBay.co.uk, closely followed in the Music category by Blue's "Best of Blue" and Madonna's "Ray of Light" albums.
DVD's were the second most searched for term with a copy of Channel 4's parody "Peep Show" as the item with the most watchers, followed by a series 10 Friends DVD box set. Other items in the most searched for Christmas top 10 include silver jewellery and Nokia phones.
