MONEY MAKING TIPS FOR JANUARY
January, 2005

The traditional New Year belt-tightening needn't be so extreme if you get yourself organised and sell some of your excess stuff on eBay. Whether you've hidden treasure lurking in the attic or simply wish to de-clutter overcrowded rooms, it's easy to do and can raise anything from a few pounds to few hundred

WHAT TO DO NEXT:
Stage One
  • Go to your attic or cellar and clear out everything you didn't know was in there or you haven't used for a year
  • Be honest about your Christmas presents - do you really like them? Will you really use them? Will anyone notice if they're gone?
  • A spot of wardrobe feng shui is perfect for getting rid of those things you've never actually worn
  • Declutter someone else - go round to your friend's/aunt's/neighbour's/Grandma's house and offer to take away unwanted bits and bobs
Stage Two
  • Go to your computer with your items and log on to www.ebay.co.uk
  • Read the information in eBay Explained
  • Open a Seller's Account by clicking on the Sell link at the top of every page
  • Check out how much similar things have been sold for on the site by searching completed listings
  • Take a picture and write a brief description for each item
  • Work out how much your postage will be; think about how you'd like to receive payment and start pricing low to get the most bids
  • List your item - decide which category it needs to go in and choose what listing format is best for you - 1, 3, 5, 7 or 10 day auction-style listings are popular and the 'Buy It Now' option is great if you are in a hurry!
Stage Three
  • Sit back and watch excitedly as bids increase right up to the last minute!
  • When you receive payment for the items, post them; bank the money and go have fun!
