THE SKY'S THE LIMIT
eBay Motors launches new Aircraft & Aviation category
8 March, 2006
In a month when Jordan ordered herself a pink helicopter and Kate Moss chartered her own jet from Paris to London, flying privately seems to be all the rage these days. But it's not just celebrities who enjoy a private flight of fancy, as rising demand by the British public has prompted eBayMotors.co.uk to launch a dedicated 'Aircraft and Aviation' category.
The new 'Aircraft and Aviation' section marks an exciting departure for eBayMotors.co.uk, the UK's leading automotive site which draws over 3 million visitors a month who trade cars, motorbikes, boats, parts and accessories.
The highest price ever paid for an item on eBay was $4.9m for a twelve-seater Gulfstream II jet in August 2001.
The new 'Aircraft and Aviation' category will help simplify the search for those keen to indulge in the luxury of private aviation and buy their own plane, parts or accessories. At time of going to press, eBayMotors.co.uk had 13 aircrafts up for sale including a luxurious 1984 Aerostar PA60-700P, which has a starting bid of £120,000. However, if you're after something a little cheaper what about a 'Baby Great Lakes Biplane'? Currently listed at £5,000, it's cheaper than a brand new Vauxhall Corsa, and guaranteed to get you to your destination in super quick time!
Aircraft parts and accessories are also big business with over 700 items currently on sale including a US Navy Airplane Compass for £9.99 and an unused parachute for £5.99. For the really uninitiated, there's a 'Teach me to fly' CD Rom currently on sale for £40.
Charlie Coney of eBay Motors comments, "We never envisaged people would buy and sell cars through eBay, yet alone planes, but with over half a million vehicles sold through eBayMotors.co.uk last year (a vehicle every 2 minutes) this new category may just take off."
