DRIVE AWAY A BECKHAM MOTOR ON eBAY
9 February 2005
From a reliable Ford Escort to a top-of-the-range Mercedes, footballer David Beckham has owned an extensive fleet of vehicles and fans of the England captain can now bag their own piece of Beckham motoring memorabilia on www.eBaymotors.co.uk
Demonstrating his rapid rise to fame and fortune, the Real Madrid midfielder’s first ever car – a 1991 red Ford Escort – and his Mercedes S500 Limousine are both up for sale on the UK’s leading online marketplace.
The seller of the Escort claims the three-door 1300cc hatchback was originally owned by Ryan Giggs and bought by his then Manchester United team-mate Beckham while in the youth side. The car was featured in the documentary ‘There’s Only One David Beckham’ and is also mentioned in his book ‘My Side’. It comes complete with the original logbook containing the England star’s signature and Salford address.
Streets apart in the styling stakes, the metallic Obsidian Black Mercedes S500 was registered to Becks in June 2001, the year he won BBC Sports Personality of the Year. Its extensive spec includes black privacy glass, TV tuner and DVD player, CD auto changer, electric rear blind and side blinds and seat-back tables.
The saloon originally bore the number plate Y3 DVB and has received its fair share of press coverage including being snapped picking up a parking ticket in London!
The sale of the two vehicles comes hot on the heels of the high-profile eBay auction of Becks’ 1996 BMW M3 which, despite having 70,000 miles on the clock, sold for a staggering £90,100 on New Year’s Eve.
Prices for the two new Beckham motors vary considerably: the Escort, featured at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=9844&item=4525676825&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW , currently stands at just £205 with bidding scheduled to end shortly before 9.45am on Saturday, February 12. The Mercedes can be viewed at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=9855&item=4525458832&rd=1 and has a Buy It Now price of £75,000. The auction comes to a close at 7pm on Monday, February 14.
