Displaying Your Collection

Displaying sports memorabilia is one of the most rewarding aspects of the hobby. Depending upon what type of memorabilia you collect, you can create all sorts of interesting and fun displays. Naturally, high-priced items, such as rare, high-condition cards need to be placed in protective holders before being allowed to be handled. (Note: the "Books" section provides some references that list dealers of this type of display holder). Beyond dealing with safety of display, the sky is the limit for creativity!

Some people like to turn a den into a miniature ballpark or miniature hall of fame! Let your creativity lead you on. Being able to share your collection with others is wonderful. How about a personal museum? Take the time to label each collectable, and include a short write-up on it. People love to learn about new things.

There are a number of great manufacturers of display-oriented furniture which are specifically for sports items. The "Books" section includes advertisements from some of these vendors. You can also search on eBay to find some of the display cabinets currently being offered by these and other vendors.

To ensure that your collection is protected, make sure that you don’t get severe sunlight in the room or rooms in which you are displaying your collectables. Over time, ultraviolet rays can badly damage many collectables (especially photographs and autographs). Window films are available that block a lot of the rays out, and they are not very expensive.

Remember, the key to displaying your sports collectables is to have fun . Display your items in your own creative way. It’s your hobby and your collection... enjoy!
