Why People Collect Sports MemorabiliaBy John Buonaguidi & George Keniston The majority of people that collect sports memorabilia do so because they have been and/or still are avid sports fans. They get great enjoyment from viewing athletic events and enjoy collecting items that remind them of those fun times and exciting moments. It is a normal human trait to remember the good things from ones past. Being able to possess and view physical items from that past can have a pleasing emotional effect on people, and that is the main reason why collectors collect. Others collect for a more serious reason they hope to profit from the purchase of a particular collectable. These individuals expect that, over time, the item will escalate in value, and they may then sell the item for a profit. History has proven that this is often the case. Most veteran collectors will tell you that it is best to collect what you personally like, even if your motive is profit. At least you will enjoy the item no matter what the profit scenario becomes. In summary, the best reason to collect sports memorabilia is that its entertaining... its fun! |
