1. What is "More Items You May Like"?"?
This is a new feature in My eBay that will show buyers items that they might be interested in. In addition to the items shown, there will be links to even more items that are similar to the ones shown. These items are chosen based on the buyer's own past bidding and purchase behavior. The eBay system automatically chooses items to show based on these general interests, but avoids items that are too similar to items already bid on or bought.
2. How are the items chosen?
The items are chosen by comparing the titles of items the buyer has bid on or bought to other item titles currently listed on the site. Where there are sensible matches, eBay shows Gallery items from other categories matching certain words or phrases in the title. This ensures that the buyers will see similar items that they might like, but not the same item that they have just bid on.
3. As a buyer, why don't I see this feature in My eBay?
If eBay can't find any items from other categories that qualify, no items will appear at the bottom of the Bidding/Watching tab of My eBay. As buyers bid on or buy more items, they will be more likely to be shown items of interest in My eBay.
4. Can I move the "More Items You May Like" section in My eBay?
Yes. Buyers will be able to move, minimize, or maximize the "More Items You May Like" section, just like the other sections in the My eBay Bidding/Watching tabThe system will automatically remember your preference in the future.
5. As a buyer, can I choose not to see "More Items You May Like" in My eBay?
Yes. If a buyer would prefer not to see these items, they can minimize the section. If a buyer prefers not to see the section at all, they can opt out from the Preferences tab. The selection will be remembered on future visits to My eBay.
6. As a seller, how can I get my item appear in the "More Items You May Like" section?
Only items with the Gallery feature enabled will be shown to buyers in the "More Items You May Like" section of the My eBay Bidding/Watching tab. When the buyer clicks the "see more items" link, all matching items will be shown, including items without Gallery.
7. Why are only Gallery items shown in the "More Items You May Like" section?
The intent of "More Items You May Like" is to educate buyers about the breadth of interesting items available on eBay. Gallery items are shown in this section because the pictures make the items more attractive to buyers. When the buyer clicks to "see more items", all items that match that search, including non-Gallery items, will also be shown.
8. As a seller, won't this feature drive my buyers away from my other items?
eBay shows items from all sellers, without any preferential treatment, in the "More Items You May Like" section. Items appearing in this section are based only on keywords from ended items the buyer bid on or bought with an extra delay of at least one day. At the point of sale, on bid confirmation and checkout confirmation pages, only items from the same seller are shown. In the Bidding tab of My eBay, "More Items You May Like" is designed to educate buyers about merchandise available across the entire site. It offers sellers a new way to drive additional buyers toward their items without requiring any additional work.
9. Will the items shown compete with the items my buyer already bid on or bought?
The items shown to buyers are based on general rather than specific interests. To avoid showing items that may compete with items the buyer has already won or lost, eBay automatically excludes all items listed in the same category. For example, if a member buys a U2 CD, a U2 poster or ticket stub may be displayed, but eBay will not show any CDs. It may still be possible, in rare circumstances, for an item similar to one already won or lost to appear, but eBay makes every attempt to avoid displaying such items.
