Select, Update or Remove an Automatic Payment Method

When you register as a seller we ask you to set up an automatic payment method. The payment method you've set up with us is noted on your Seller Account page.

Each month we'll send you an invoice to notify you of the amount we intend to deduct from your automatic payment method. You'll receive your invoice on the first of the month or the 15th of the month (see Your Payment Due Date). You don't need to take any action when we send you this invoice.

Not sure why you've being charged? For a breakdown of your recent fees, see your account status. See also Fees for further help.

For information on payment requirements, late fees and payment schedules, see Your Payment Due Date.

To learn about one-time payments, see Making a One-time Payment.

Setting up an automatic payment method

You have a choice of three automatic payment methods:

To set up an automatic payment method, follow the same steps as Updating your automatic payment method.

Paying by PayPal

PayPal is a safe, convenient way to automatically pay your eBay selling fees. When you set up Automatic PayPal Payments, your selling fees are automatically deducted from your PayPal account no sooner than 10 days after you receive your invoice.

How automatic PayPal payments work

  • PayPal first attempts to withdraw funds from your PayPal account balance.

  • If there are insufficient funds in the PayPal account, PayPal uses the funding source you selected when you signed up for automatic PayPal payments.

  • If you didn’t select a preferred funding source during that process, PayPal uses your other PayPal funding sources.

To change your PayPal funding source for eBay selling fees:

  1. From the PayPal homepage, log in to your PayPal account.

  2. Click the Profile tab.

  3. In the Financial Information column, click the "Recurring Payments" link.

  4. Click the "Edit Funding Source" link to change your funding sources.

  5. Click the Save button.

If a payment from this preferred funding source fails, (for example, the credit card expires), the eBay invoice amount can be paid from other available funding sources.

Note: You can prevent certain funding sources from being used for Automatic PayPal Payments from the Preapproved Payments page in your PayPal Profile.

You can update the PayPal account on file for automatic payments at any time.

Paying by Direct Debit

eBay can automatically deduct your selling fees from your bank account on the same day each month if you provide your sort code and account number. Your selling fees will be deducted approximately 5 to 7 days after you receive your invoice; that is, no sooner than the 5th of the following month if you are invoiced at the end of the month, or no sooner than the 20th of the month if you are invoiced in the middle of the month.

You can update your bank account information at any time.

To learn more about payment schedules, see Your Payment Due Date.

To remove your bank account from your eBay seller’s account, see Removing a Payment Method from Your Account on this page.

Paying by credit card

You can have eBay automatically charge your selling fees to a credit card. eBay accepts the following cards:

  • Visa

  • MasterCard

Note: Your credit card will normally be charged 5 to 7 days after you receive your invoice. Learn more about eBay account invoices and payment schedules.

You can update the credit card on file for automatic payments at any time by going to the Place or Update Your Credit Card on File page. To ensure that the new information is used for an invoice payment, please update the credit card before the end of your billing cycle (either the end of the month or the 15th of the month).

To remove a credit card from your account, see Removing a Payment Method from Your Account on this page.

Updating your automatic payment method

Note: To ensure that the new information is used for an invoice payment, please update the account before the end of your billing cycle (either the end of the month or the 15th of the month). For payment schedule, see Your Payment Due Date.

  1. Click the My eBay link on the eBay Home page.

  2. Click the Seller Account link under the My Account section in the left-hand navigation.

  3. Go to the eBay Seller fees section and click the another payment method link.

  4. Select PayPal, bank account, or credit card, and then click the Set Up Automatic Payments button.
