Why was the bid increment bigger than I expected when I placed my bid?

The bid increments get bigger as the bid price increases. The table below outlines the different increment levels.

Current High Bid Increment
£0-£1.00 £0.05
£1.01 - £5.00 £0.20
£5.01 - £15.00 £0.50
£15.01 - £60.00 £1.00
£60.01 - £150.00 £2.00
£150.01 - £300.00 £5.00
£300.01 - £600.00 £10.00
£600.01 - £1,500.00 £20.00
£1,500.01 - £3,000 £50.00
£3000.01 > £100.00

For example, let's say an item is showing a current high bid of £1.50. The increment at that level is 20 pence, which means you have to bid a minimum of £1.70. The bid amount will continue to be raised in 20-pence increments until bidding reaches £5. At that point, the increment will change and the new increment will be 50 pence.
