Q.

How does Picture Services work?
A. The main points to remember about Picture Services are:
  • Adding photos into your listing can be as easy as drag-and-drop (depending on your browser) or clicking the "Add Picture" button. By using Picture Services, you eliminate the need to use confusing FTP (File Transfer Protocol) programs to add your photos.
  • Picture Services automatically resizes and converts your uploaded photos for optimal display with a single click of your mouse.

Q.

How much does Picture Services cost?
A. The pricing structure for Picture Services is based on the number of pictures and layout you include in your listing. Your first picture per listing is free! After your first free picture per listing, add up to five more for 10p per picture.

You can also select to display your pictures in the following layouts:

  • Display your pictures in your listing as a slideshow or Supersize your pictures for 50p. See these attention grabbing features!
  • Add up to six pictures, SuperSize your pictures and get Gallery for 70p (a £1.15 value) with Picture Pack. Learn more!

Q.

Q.

How do I add photos using Picture Services?
A. That depends on the Internet browser you are using. Most of today's browsers support a drag-and-drop method that works like this:
  1. Click on a Photo file stored on your computer
  2. Drag the file to a picture box in the Add Pictures page
Your picture should now be added.

However, some older browsers and all browsers on Macintosh systems do not support drag-and-drop. Because there is no picture box, click on an "Add Picture" button and find the photo file on your computer. When you select the photo file, the file name for your photo is added to Picture Services. That's all there is to it.

Q.

When adding my pictures, I noticed that some of them show up in the picture boxes and others don't. Why?
A. For most picture files, you'll see the picture in the picture box as you add. However, pictures saved in the TIF, PNG, FPX, PCX, or Animated GIF file formats do not show up in the picture box. Instead, you'll see a message that says, "Picture previewable after sending." This means that you will be able to see the picture on the Sell Your Item page, but not before. The same applies to .BMP files uploaded using Netscape.

Q.

My current browser uses "Attach Picture" buttons to add photos. Can I switch to drag-and-drop?
A. If you're using a Macintosh computer, the "Attach Picture" button is your only option for adding photos. If your computer uses Microsoft Windows, then you may be able to upgrade your Internet browser to one that supports drag-and-drop. The following browsers will support drag-and-drop on the versions of Microsoft Windows listed below:
  • Internet Explorer 4.01SP2 or later on Windows 95b, Windows 98SE and Windows NT 4.0
  • AOL 4.0 (Internet Explorer 4.01) on Windows 95b or Windows 98SE
  • AOL 4.0 (Internet Explorer 4.0) on Windows 95b or Windows 98SE

Note: We strongly recommend that you closely consult the documentation for any of these products before downloading and installing them on your computer.

Q.

Will Picture Services let me edit the photos in my listing?
A. Yes. Most Web browsers support cropping, rotation, and deletion of pictures directly in Picture Services.
  • Cropping means you can get rid of unwanted space in the picture.
  • Rotation means you can change the orientation of your pictures (turn them sideways or invert them) in 90-degree increments.
  • Deletion means you can remove the picture from the listing.

Q.

How long will Picture Services host my photos?
A. Picture Services will host your listing pictures for the duration of your listing.

Q.

Can I add, edit or delete photos in the listing after it is submitted?
A. No. Once a listing is submitted, pictures cannot be added, deleted or changed for the duration of the listing. You may, however, add or delete photos in the Add Your Photos page before the listing is submitted.

Q.

Why does Picture Services resize my pictures? What happens to picture quality?
A. Digital photos tend to be large files. Large photos mean long wait times for uploading and downloading. When you submit a large photo to Picture Services, the system automatically resizes it (400 pixels wide by 300 pixels high) to improve upload time while maintaining the best image quality.

Q.

I can't find my picture to upload within my file folder. Why?
A. To upload a picture, click the picture box or "Add Picture" button. Next, select the file folder on your computer where your picture is stored. If you can't find your picture within the file folder, try selecting "All file types" to view all the files within that folder.

Q.

Why do my images appear grainy on eBay?
A. Pictures that have been resized before uploading can suffer from lower quality resolution. Remember, Picture Services will automatically resize uploaded images to the dimension of 400 pixels wide by 300 pixels tall-there is no need to do it yourself! For higher quality images, try uploading pictures with the original dimensions unaltered.

Q.

I reduced the size of my picture and it looks different in Picture Services. Why?
A. This can happen if you use an external photo editor to reduce the size of the picture before submitting it to Picture Services. Picture Services automatically resizes photos to make them suitable for the Web. However, if you resize the photo first using an external editor, and Picture Services then resizes it again upon submission, the photo may be compressed twice which results in lower picture quality.

The solution is simple: submit the best picture you have without attempting to resize it first. Even if it is a very large file, let Picture Services do the work and resize it for you.

Q.

What is a slideshow and how does it work?
A. A slideshow is an exciting new way to bring your pictures to life in your listing for only 60p! In a slideshow, two or more photos of your item are cycled in a single window to create an animated effect. In a two-photo slideshow, visitors to your listing are able to view your item from two different vantage points. Special feature: If you supply more than two photos (up to six), visitors are treated to a dynamic movie-like sequence that cycles automatically.

Q.

Can I have both a slideshow and still pictures in the same listing?
A. No. You can have either a slideshow or still pictures in one listing. Not both.

Q.

What are Supersize images and how do they work?
A. Supersize Pictures allow you to show off your item in full detail and grab bidders' attention with larger photos. For £0.50, you can display all your pictures up to 880w x 600h pixels. Please note: images must be at least 440w x 330h in order to qualify for the Supersize option. We cannot Supersize images that do not meet these minimum dimensions.

Q.

A. If you use Windows:
  • Internet Explorer 4.01SP2 on Windows 95b and Windows NT 4.0
  • Internet Explorer 5.0 on Windows 95b, Windows 98SE, Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000
