How to Add a Photo to your Listing

Step 1: Save a photo to your computer   |   Step 2: Edit your photo   |   Step 3: Copy your photo to the Web

On eBay a picture really is worth a thousand words. Including a photograph of your item with your listing description can help boost bidding. All you have to do is follow three simple steps and you'll soon be adding photos like a pro.

Save a photo to your computer

First, you'll need to save your photos as digital pictures (also called "electronic images"). To get started, choose the type of equipment or service that's best for you.

digital camera
  • Digital camera- A digital camera is the easiest and best way to get sharp Web photos. This type of camera works just like a film camera, except pictures are stored in the camera's memory instead of on film.

No digital camera? See the wide range of digital cameras for sale at eBay. Your digital camera will come with instructions on how to transfer (upload) your photo to your computer.

scanner
  • Film camera and scanner- Take and develop a photograph with any kind of film camera and then use a scanner to convert your picture into an electronic image.

Scanners directly transfer pictures to your computer. All you do is lay the image on the scanning glass and follow the instructions supplied with your scanner.

You can place small or flat items (such as stamps or jewellery) on the scanning glass and create an electronic image without having to use a camera.

Note: If you don't have a scanner, you can get photos scanned at most branches of Kinko or Snappy Snaps; or you can use an online processing service such as Fotango.

Kodak PhotoNet

Fotango
  • Film-to-Digital Image Services- Digital Image Services such as Kodak PhotoNet or Fotango deliver digital pictures for Web use from a standard roll of film, along with a standard printing service.

Scanners directly transfer pictures to your computer. All you do is lay the image on the scanning glass and follow the instructions supplied with your scanner.

video camera
  • Video camera and video tape- You can transfer pictures from your video camera or video tapes using a video capture device and software. You will need to speak to your PC manufacturer about what kind of video capture device is good for you.

Now you're ready to move on to Step 2: Edit your photo
