Step 2: Edit your photo

Step 1: Save a photo to your computer   |   Step 2: Edit your photo   |   Step 3: Copy your photo to the Web

When choosing your digital photograph, choose one that shows the item for sale clearly, photographed against a plain, uncluttered background, and make sure your picture is in focus!

Bad image: Not clear what's for sale, out of focus, poor lighting, slow to download

Good image: Subject in focus, good lighting, plain background, fast download time.

You can use the editing software included with your digital camera or scanner to edit your picture. Alternatively, free software is available from shareware.com or tucows.com. Other editing software packages include Adobe PhotoDeluxe Home Edition or JASC's Paintshop Pro.

Tips:

  • Picture file size should be under 50 KB (kilobytes) for quick page downloads.
  • The actual size of your picture should be no larger than a standard photograph (3" by 5" or 4" by 6").
  • Remove unnecessary background.
  • Save your edited picture as a JPEG or JPG file (this is the best format for web photographs). Here's how:
    1. Choose Save As from the File menu.
    2. Name your file.
    3. Select JPEG or JPG from the Save as type drop-down list.
Note: Selecting JPEG or JPG will automatically end your filename with .jpg (for example, carphoto will now be carphoto.jpg).
You're now ready to move on to Step 3: Copy your photo to the Web!
