Making a Best Offer

Best Offer is an option available for Buy it Now items that lets you negotiate the price of an item with the seller. Buyers can make up to 3 Best Offers per item in all categories and up to 10 Best Offers on vehicles. Sellers can accept, decline or counter offer each Best Offer. They opt to receive Best Offers when creating their listing. If you see the "Submit a Best Offer" link in the listing below the Buy it Now price, the seller has decided to consider Best Offers from buyers.

Important: If the Make Offer button does not appear, the seller is not interested in receiving offers and you should not try to contact them through other means to negotiate price or terms. This is a breach of eBay’s Offers to Buy or Sell Outside eBay policy.

When to use Best Offer

You should use Best Offer only when you’re serious about buying the item at your Best Offer price. As with bidding on auction-style listings, your Best Offer is binding. If your offer is accepted by the seller, you are obliged to pay for it.

Best Offers are valid for 48 hours or until the listing closes, whichever comes first.

Best Offer gives you an opportunity to negotiate the Buy It Now price with the seller. There is no minimum Best Offer price, however, you should only make what you consider to be your "best" offer for the item because any seller who receives offers from more than one buyer for an item is likely to accept the highest Best Offer.

Tip: To get an idea of a typical selling price for the item you are considering, you can search for completed listings.

Finding Best Offer listings

To find Best Offer listings:
  1. Search for the item you want to buy.

  2. On the search results page, look for the “Best Offer” icon in the bids column.

Submitting a Best Offer

To submit your Best Offer:
  1. Find a listing that accepts Best Offers.

  2. Click the Make Offer button in the listing.

  3. Enter your Best Offer price.

  4. Review the terms at the bottom of the page, select the tick box and then click the Continue button.

  5. Review the information on the Review and Submit Best Offer page and then click Submit Best Offer button.

Postage Costs

If the seller has specified postage costs for the item or service it is not negotiable. If, however, the seller has requested that the buyer contact the seller regarding postage costs, you may offer the seller a price for the item that includes postage.

Limits to Best Offers

The number of offers you are allowed to make per item is limited based on the category where the item is listed. Buyers on ebay.co.uk are able to make up to 3 Best Offers in all. Buyers in categories 121883 and 10542 are able to make up to 5 Best Offers. Buyers of vehicles are able to make up to 10 Best Offers. This includes the following categories:

  • Cars (9801 and its sub-categories)

  • Classic Cars (29751 and its sub-categories)

  • Other Vehicles (33752 and its sub-categories)

  • Motorcycles & Scooters (422 and its sub-categories)

  • Aircraft (32635)

  • Jet Skis (1295)

  • Narrowboats/ Canalboats (121900)

  • Power Boats (1296)

  • Sailing Boats (1297)

  • Campervans & Motorhomes (14256)

  • Caravans (121905)

  • Agricultural Vehicles (108848)

  • Lorries/ Trucks (108849)

  • Minibuses/ Buses/ Coaches (108850)

  • Taxis (122199)

  • Trailers/ Transporters (9882)

  • Vans/ Pickups (108851)

  • Other Commercial Vehicles (18307)

We encourage buyers to make only their very best offers for an item and to ensure that these are serious, fair market offers. If a seller Best Offer is deemed to be too low, sellers may reject the offer and invite you to submit a new Best Offer with a revised price or make you a counter offer. It’s up to you how you respond – accept the counter offer, make a new Best Offer (up to 3 in total) or ignore it.

Note: Expired offers, declined offers, and retracted offers all count against the "offer limit per item".
