Checkout FAQs for Buyers

What is Checkout?
Checkout is a set of tools that creates a consistent process for buyers and sellers to use when completing their eBay purchases and sales. Checkout can speed up the end of a sale or purchase by eliminating the need to email back and forth.

How much does it cost to use Checkout?
Checkout is FREE.

What are the benefits of Checkout?

  • A fast and easy way to complete your purchase
  • Store your shipping address and/or payment information for future purchases
  • Pay immediately, if the seller accepts eBay Payments
  • Is Checkout required for all listings?
No. Checkout is completely optional for all listings including Auctions and Buy It Now. Buyers do not have to use Checkout even if Checkout is available for the listing. The buyer should always review and follow the seller's payment instructions.

Can I use Checkout for buying from Multiple Item Auctions?
Yes. Checkout will help you pay for any number of items you buy from a Multiple Item Auction, if the seller chooses to use Checkout.

If I use Checkout to ask the seller for the total, do I need to come back and complete the purchase through Checkout?
No. Buyers and sellers may use Checkout to help exchange information, but are not required to complete the sale through Checkout.

Can I change my payment information after I complete Checkout?
If you have completed Checkout and selected to pay with any of the following methods:

  • Personal cheque
  • Postal/Money Order/Banker's Draft
  • Other credit cards
  • Other online payment services
  • Other
  • You can change your Checkout information later. In particular, you can change the payment method to any other method the seller offers, or you can change the total amount (if the seller allows this). An email will be sent to both you and the seller informing you that Checkout information was updated. Note that you cannot change your shipping address after you complete Checkout. Also, if you selected to pay with COD or eBay Payments, then you cannot change your Checkout information, since the seller may have already sent you the item.

Can I see the Postage Address page every time I go through Checkout?
Yes. To see the Postage Address page every time you go through Checkout, select the "Change Postage Address" link on the "Postage and Payment Information page." On the Postage Address page, just select the option on the top that says, "Show me this page every time I Checkout."

If I have purchased several items from the same seller, can I use Checkout once for all the items I purchased?
No. If you are using Checkout, you must complete the Checkout process for each auction you win or Buy It Now item you purchase. You cannot combine all of your purchased items into one Checkout process.
