Checkout Tutorial for Buyers

Part 3: Pay or Request the Total

If the seller entered payment details, eBay will calculate the total for you. If the amount does not look correct (maybe you want faster postage, for example), you can click on "ask seller for the total."

In some cases, the seller will also allow you to edit the amount. If you're going to edit the amount, be sure to read the seller's Checkout instructions for any information you'll need to determine the total.

If you're not ready to pay, eBay helps you request the total amount from the seller. You can enter a message that will be sent to the seller along with your postage address. The seller will then send you an email with further instructions.

The seller can update payment details any time after the listing ends or after you request the total. The updated details will appear in Checkout and on the Checkout Summary, but not on the listing page.
