I didn't receive an item I paid for. Does eBay offer insurance?

If you purchase an item and pay using PayPal on eBay.co.uk, you’re protected for the full value of the item (including postage and packaging) if something goes wrong.

For eBay ie: If you paid for your item using PayPal, you are covered by the PayPal Buyer Protection programme as long as you meet the eligibility requirements. This programme provides enhanced coverage up to €1,000.00 with no processing fee when you pay with PayPal.

To begin the claim process, review our Item Not Received or Significantly Not as Described page.

If you did not pay for your item using PayPal, you may still be protected if you paid directly with your credit card; however, in most cases items that are paid for using a service other than PayPal will result in the item not being protected.

Notes:

  • Eligibility for PayPal Buyer Protection is determined by eBay country site where the item was purchased

  • Your PayPal dispute must be filed within 45 days from the payment date

  • Please review the eligibility requirements and find out how to file a claim

What to do if you don't qualify for the PayPal Buyer Protection Programme

If you don't receive the item you paid for and you didn't pay with PayPal, you can use the eBay dispute console to communicate with your seller. Learn more about this process.

If you can’t resolve the matter directly with the seller, you may wish to report them to the police. eBay will gladly help the police with their investigation. Please ask the investigating officer to email us by using the "report information to eBay" link on the Understanding eBay's Role help page.

You could also pursue a claim against the seller via the small claims court.

Please also report the seller to us via the link at the bottom of this page. We'll investigate the seller and take appropriate action on their account. However, we can't force the seller to fulfil their obligation to complete the transaction. In addition, we regret that we can't discuss any action we take on the seller's account with you.
