Search by Keyword
Learning to choose effective keywords is the ticket to successful searching. Keywords describe the item you're
looking for. Typing keywords into a search box is usually the first step toward finding items on eBay.
A search for Teddy Bear
What types of keywords might be appropriate for the item you're seeking?
- What the item is
- Brand name/artist/label
- Year made
Here are some basic tips for choosing and using search keywords:
Combine keywords to be more specific. Example: "Orange
cashmere sweater" will give you a more manageable list of results than just "sweater".
Experiment! How might a seller describe what you're looking
for? Example: You're trying "vase", but maybe the seller called it an "urn".
Try common misspellings of your keywords. Example: If
you're looking for Wedgwood china, also always try the keyword "Wedgewood". (And if you're not sure about your spelling, be
sure to look the word up and search with the correct version!)
