Searching by Postcode

Searching for items by postcode enables you to select items listed by sellers in your region. Selecting listings close to you may help you avoid high postage costs, especially if you're considering buying an item that is large or fragile.

You can:

  • Narrow your search using postcodes
  • Sort your search results by distance

Narrowing your search using postcodes

To limit your search to items within a certain distance:

  1. Click the "Advanced Search" link, located at the top of most eBay pages.
  2. Enter keywords for your item.
  3. Scroll down the page and in the "Items near me" section, check the box, select a distance limit, and enter a postcode or choose a nearby city.

  4.
    Search by Zip Code

  5. Click the Search button.
  6. Review your search list. If you need to change the distance, or postcode, click on the "Refine Search" link.

You can also quickly filter for items that are near you by using the Distance filter in Search Options.

  1. Locate 'Search Options' to the left of items on the search results page.
  2. Check the box next to "Items within?", select a distance, and enter your postcode

  3.
    Search by ZIP Code

  4. Click 'Show Items' to re-run the search

Note: If a seller has not entered a valid postcode, their listing will not be displayed in a distance-based search.

Sorting your search results by distance using your postcode

To sort your search results by distance:

  1. On any search results page, find the pull-down menu labeled "Sort by:" above the item list, and select "Distance: nearest first."

  2.
    Search by ZIP Code

  3. The page refreshes, and distance and location information is displayed in the right-hand column. (If you have not previously entered a postcode, you may be asked to enter one.)

  4.
    Search by ZIP Code

Note: If the seller did not include a valid postcode, these items will be displayed at the bottom of distance-sorted lists.

About Postcodes and Postage

  • Always check the seller's postage and packing instructions in the listing, or contact the seller directly to ask about special postal options.
  • To find the postcode for any UK town/city, visit the Royal Mail Web site.
  • Sellers who would like to add postcode to their listing can do so using Revise Your Item, subject to normal revision rules.
