Select an appropriate category.
Think about how buyers would search for an item. Here are two great ways to determine which categories to list your item in:
| a. |
Browse the listings to see which detailed categories items like yours are listed in. Try to avoid listing in 'other' categories as they generate fewer bids. |
| b. |
Let eBay suggest categories. While filling out the Sell Your Item form, you can type in key words and we'll help you choose an appropriate category. |
Write a descriptive title.
Imagine you're the buyer. What information would you type in to search for your item? Focus on key search words that let buyers find your item fast. Examples include brand, size, colour, condition, specifications etc. Don't waste space with adjectives - buyers rarely search for 'beautiful'. Also, consider using a sub-title. It lets you call out key selling points that might catch a buyer's eye.
Always include photos.
A picture is worth a thousand words and is the best way of convincing potential buyers to bid. Adding clear, uncluttered pictures will show buyers exactly what you are selling and typically increases your chances of selling by 15%. Also, consider using eBay's Gallery feature to add a small version of your first picture to search results and listings. Listings with Gallery stand out in a crowd and typically sell for 20% more.
Write a clear item description.
Make sure that your description provides buyers with all of the information they need. Include information such as brand, age, condition, etc. And, be honest - disclosing imperfections will prevent misunderstandings later. Some buyers also like to know the reason for the sale, so, if there is a story or history behind the item, include that here.
Set the right starting price.
If you're using an auction-style format to sell, consider starting your item at a low price and without a reserve, e.g. £0.99. If buyers believe they could get a bargain, it will encourage them to start bidding on your item and could lead to higher final sale price.
Give postage and payment info.
Make sure to specify the forms of payment you accept, the postage costs and the possible conditions of return. Including exact postage costs will help your potential buyers to understand the total price of the item, and explaining payment options is also helpful. Buyers want a safe and easy way to pay so consider accepting an online payment system such as PayPal. It gives you seller protection and means you get your money with less hassle.
