Narrowing Your Results

You can reduce the number of items in your search or browse results by using tabs, lists, links, and other options to filter and sort the information. Filtering and sorting are different, but both methods help to make your results more manageable so that you can find the items you want more quickly.

  • Filtering: When you filter your results, you modify the search criteria and perform the search again, so that your new search results are reduced and are more precise.

  • Sorting: When you sort your results, you rearrange the information in your search results, so that the number of results is the same, but the information is in a different order.

To narrow your results, from your search or browse results, do any of the following:

Notes: The filtering and sorting options listed in the following table are commonly used options, and additional options are available. You can add or remove filtering options by customising your search options. You can add or remove sorting options by customising your display.

Auction Items

Example: Show me only DVD listings that are available by auction.

Click the Auctions tab at the top of your search results.

Buy it Now Items

Example: Show me only DVD listings that offer the Buy it Now option.

Do one of the following:

  • Click the Buy it Now tab.

or

  • On the left side of the page, under Search Options, select the Buy It Now items tickbox, and click the Show Items button.

Get it Fast items

Example: Show me only DVD listings whose sellers participate in the Get it Fast programme.

1.On the left side of the page, under Search Options, select the Get it Fast Items tickbox.

2. Click the Show Items button.

Not available

Completed Listings

Example: Show me only DVD listings that have ended so that I can research past prices and results of similar listings.

  1. On the left side of the page, under Search Options, select the Completed listings tickbox.

  2. Click the Show Items button.

Not available.

Country/Region

Example: Show me only DVD listings located within the UK.

  1. On the left side of the page, under Search Options, select UK Only.

  2. Click the Show Items button.

Example: Sort my results by country/region with my site first.

Do one of the following:

  • Click the Country/Region link.

or

  • From the Sort by list, choose Country/Region: sort down.

Distance

Example: Show me only DVD listings within 100 miles of my postcode.

  1. On the left side of the page, under Search Options, select the Items within tickbox.

  2. From the list, choose the distance.

  3. In the miles of box, type a postcode.

  4. Click the Show Items button.

Example: Sort my results by distance, the nearest to the farthest

Do one of the following:

  • Click the Distance link.

or

  • From the Sort by list, choose Distance: nearest first.

You may need to provide a postcode.

Lots (Multiple Items)

Example: Show me only DVD listings that include more than one similar item.

  1. On the left side of the page, under Search Options, select the Items listed as lots tickbox.

  2. Click the Show Items button.

Not available.

PayPal Items

Example: Show me only DVD listings that accept credit cards or checking account payments through PayPal.

  1. On the left side of the page, under Search Options, select the Items listed with PayPal tickbox.

  2. Click the Show Items button.

Example: Sort my results by listings that accept PayPal.

Click the PayPal link.

Picture Gallery Format

Not available.

Example: Show the pictures in my results as larger images, and in a gallery-like format.

Click the Picture Gallery link.
All items with pictures will be at the top of the list.

Price

Example: Show me only the DVD listings that cost between £5.00 and £40.00.

  1. On the left side of the page, under Search Options, select the Items priced tickbox.

  2. Type numbers in the boxes to specify the upper and/or lower price limits. Do not use £.

  3. Click the Show Items button.

Example: Sort my results by lowest price to highest price.

Do one of the following:

  • Click the Price link.

or

  • From the Sort by list, choose Price: lowest first.

Time

Example: Show me only the DVD listings that are ending within 24 hours.

  1. On the left side of the page, under Search Options, select the Listings tickbox.

  2. From the lists, select Ending within. Then select 24 hours.

  3. Click the Show Items button.

Example: Sort my results by time, with the listings that end the soonest first.

Do one of the following:

  • Click the Time Left link.

or

  • From the Sort by list, choose Time: ending soonest.

All Items including Shop Inventory

Example: Show me DVDs in Auction-style, Fixed Price, and Shop Inventory listings. On the left side of the page, under Search Options, select the All items including Shop Inventory items tickbox, and click the Show Items button.

Not available

Shop Inventory Items Only

Example: Show me only DVD listings in eBay Shops.

On the left side of the page, under Search Options, select the Shop Inventory Items Only tickbox, and click the Show Items button.

Note: This option does not appear in the default view. To make it part of the Search options list, go to the very bottom of the yellow sidebar and click the "Customise" link. Select desired items from the list on the left and move them into the right column (options you want to display) by clicking the arrow between the boxes. Then click the Save button.
