Credit Card Information

There are certain situations in which eBay requests or may require your credit card information. With all of these online requests, your information is transmitted through a secured connection. The transmitted credit card information is protected by the industry standard SSL. If you choose not to send credit card information online, you have the option of mailing it to eBay.

Important Note: eBay will not ask you to send your credit card information through email.

When we request or require your credit card information:

  • Account payment:
When you place your credit card information on your eBay account for the first time, eBay will attempt to authorise your card. The response from your credit card company will appear on your account status page as either approved or declined. If approved, eBay will bill your credit card each month for your previous month's fees.

  • Registration from anonymous email services:
Anonymous email services, which are typically Web-based and free to use, allow customers to sign up and use email services without providing verifiable personal information. Examples of services that eBay classifies as anonymous email providers are Hotmail™, Yahoo!™ Mail and MailExcite™. Due to possible authentication problems with these email services, we require users to provide a valid credit card for verification.
