Feedback Abuse

Feedback comments containing any of the following are not permitted:

  • Links or scripts

  • References to eBay or PayPal investigations

  • References to law enforcement investigations

  • Negative statements within Feedback left for a buyer that conflict with the positive rating

  • Personally identifying information about another member, including real name, address, phone number, or email address

  • Political, religious or social commentary commentary rather than a genuine comment about the transaction

  • The comment, reply or follow-up references a completely separate transaction or unrelated experience

  • Profane, vulgar, obscene or racist language or adult material

Breaches of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:

  • Feedback rating and/or comment removal

  • Listing cancellation

  • Limits on account privileges

  • Account suspension

  • Forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings

  • Loss of PowerSeller status

If you have received Feedback that breaches the Feedback abuse policy, please report it to us. For privacy and security reasons, eBay will not share the result of the investigation with you.

Customs Requirements

eBay will remove Feedback if the listing meets the Customs Requirements below and the seller receives a negative or neutral Feedback comment which references customs delays or customs fees.

The following text, or very similar text must be included in the listing and be:

  • In the format below

  • In a font size no smaller than the majority of the other text in the item description

  • Prominently displayed (in the upper half of the description, free-standing, etc.)

International buyers – please note:

  • Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or P&P charges. These charges are the buyer’s responsibility.

  • Please check with your country’s customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying.

Other information a seller may wish to include:

  • These charges are normally collected by the delivering freight (courier) company or when you pick the item up – do not confuse them for additional P&P charges. 

  • We do not mark merchandise values below value or mark items as 'gifts' - international government regulations prohibit such behaviour.

Some Examples

A member includes another member’s name or phone number in a Feedback comment. eBay will remove the Feedback upon request, and may take actions such as the ones listed above.

Why does eBay have this policy?

Feedback is the foundation of trust on eBay. Abuse of the eBay Feedback system undermines the integrity of the Feedback system and decreases trust within the eBay marketplace. Though Feedback is a member-to-member system, there are specific, limited occasions when eBay will remove Feedback comments.
