Item Location Misrepresentation Policy

Sellers must accurately describe the location from which their item will be sent in the item location field. False, inaccurate or misleading information about the postage location of an item is not allowed on eBay.

Breaches of this policy may result in a range of actions including:

  • Listing cancellation

  • Forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings

  • Limits on account privileges

  • Loss of PowerSeller status

  • Account suspension

Some Examples

Examples of accurate item location include:

Hong Kong, Hong Kong
Beijing, China
Sydney, Australia

Examples of inaccurate item location include:

Hong Kong, United Kingdom
HK, United Kingdom
Worldwide, United Kingdom
Direct from Manufacturer to United Kingdom

Why does eBay have this policy?

Inaccurate location representation leads to higher postage costs and longer postage times than expected for buyers. Listings that breach eBay policy undermine the trust and legitimacy of the marketplace and are harmful to both sellers and buyers within the eBay online community.
