eBay allows sellers to place only certain types of links within an item description. (See the Links Frequently Asked Questions for the definition of a link.) Links that are allowed are listed below; sellers should review the specific links policy to ensure any links included in the listing adhere to the policies outlined.
One link to a page that further describes the item being sold in that listing
One link to your email address that opens an email client for potential buyers to ask questions about the item in that listing
Links to photos of the item for sale
Links to your eBay (including your eBay Shop)
Links to your About Me page (in addition to the About Me icon already provided by eBay)
Links that provide credits to third parties
One link to your listing terms and conditions (providing that the most relevant information is within the listing itself and that this page does not include any links off of the eBay website)
Embedded video in a listing provided it complies with the following requirements:
The video must conform to all eBay policies, including but not limited to:
The seller must be the owner of the underlying rights, including intellectual property rights, or authorised to distribute it by the owners of such rights.
The video may not solicit unsafe payment methods.
The video may not include software that harms or interferes with the viewer’s machine (for example, a virus or spyware), uses it for malicious or unauthorised purposes, or breaches the buyer’s privacy.
The video must deliver the content in Flash animation format and be hosted by a site that takes strong measures to provide safe content. In an attempt to safeguard eBay members, based on current technologies and current eBay marketplace requirements, sellers may only embed video from: AOL, AuctionMercial , AuctionPlayer, AuctionVideo, CarTHINK, CreativeVideosOnline, Dailymotion, Google, i2iAuction, Microsoft, MySpace, Silverdock, Vzaar, and YouTube.
Breaches of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:
Listing cancellation
Limits on account privileges
Account suspension
Forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings
Loss of PowerSeller status
A logo used for any of these links may be no greater than 88 x 33 pixels and it may not flash or otherwise move. (The exception to this guideline is links to your eBay listings).
Linking to websites that offer to trade, sell, or purchase goods or services, or including links for any purpose other than those listed above is not allowed. Prohibited links include, but are not limited to:
Links to web pages that offer to trade, sell or purchase goods or services outside the online eBay marketplace. This applies whether it is a static URL or an active link
Links to web sites or pages offering merchandise not permitted on eBay
Links to sites that solicit eBay User IDs, passwords or email addresses from buyers
Links that encourage buyers to place their eBay bids through a site other than eBay
Links or other connections to live chat systems
| Why does eBay have this policy? |
|
Links can allow sellers to provide potential buyers with more detailed information about their listings. This policy promotes a more level playing field by ensuring sellers do not link inappropriately thereby creating a disadvantage to those sellers who link appropriately. Listings with inappropriate links undermine the trust and legitimacy of eBay’s marketplace.
