The following list contains general guidelines for listing weapons and knives on eBay.
Firearms
eBay prohibits members from listing firearms, including antique, collectable, and sport & hunting firearms as well as ammunition. Please see our separate firearms policy.
Weapons
Certain weapons are not permitted on eBay. Weapons not permitted include (but may not be limited to):
crossbows;
nunchaku, coshes, truncheons, batons or knuckledusters;
any leaded canes, staffs, crutches or sticks;
zip guns, hand grenades or metal replica hand grenades;
throwing stars, shurikens, billys, sandclubs, sandbags, or slungshots (also known as saps or blackjacks);
handclaws, footclaws, hollow kubutans or blowpipes;
"kusari gama", "kyoketsu shoge", "manrikigusari" or "kusari" (lengths of rope, cord, wire or chain fastened at one end to either a sickle, hooked knife, hard weight or hand grip);
swords with a curved blade of 50 centimetres or over in length (the length of the blade being the straight line distance from the top of the handle to the tip of the blade) - prohibited on eBay.co.uk, permitted on eBay.ie;
any other offensive weapon as defined by Section 141 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (UK) or the Firearms and Defensive Weapons Act 1980 (Ireland) as these statutes may be amended from time to time.
Knives
Generally permitted on eBay, with certain exceptions:
Switchblade knives are not permitted on eBay. These are any knife with a blade which can be released automatically or by the use of a trigger. Other names for switchblades include but are not limited to spring-blade knife, flick knife, snap-blade knife, gravity knife, and butterfly knife.
Knives disguised to look like a harmless item are not permitted on eBay. These items include but are not limited to belt buckle knives, lipstick case knives, air gauge knives, hidden knives in shoes or, walking sticks, and writing pen knives.
Push daggers are not permitted on eBay. These are knives with a handle that fits within a clenched fist and the blade of which protrudes from between two fingers.
Any stealth knife is not permitted. This is any knife or spike which has a blade, or sharp point, made from a material that is not readily detectable by metal detectors and which is not designed for domestic use or for use in the processing, preparation or consumption of food or as a toy.
Any knife designed for throwing is not permitted on eBay.
Members should be aware when listing knives on eBay that it is an offence to market a knife in a way which indicates or suggests that it is suitable for combat, or is likely to encourage violent behaviour involving the use of the knife as a weapon. It is also an offence to sell knives to a person who is under the age of 16.
