Completing the sale


Congratulations, you've sold your item. Keep up the good work by communicating well with your customer and delivering promptly.

1. Contact your buyer
Once your item is sold, you’ll need to contact your winning bidder or buyer. If you're using checkout (which is set automatically) some or all of the information (depending on the selling tool you used) will be emailed automatically to your buyer. You can also send an invoice from the item listing in the Sold section of My eBay.
Get the buyer’s postal address if you didn't receive it in your eBay notification.
Confirm the following with the buyer. These items should match what you specified in the listing:
  • The P&P cost

  • How you'll deliver the item

  • When to expect it and provide a tracking or delivery confirmation number if you have it

  • Which payment methods you accept

  • The total price

  • Tax (if applicable) 

Note:  If you don't get a response from the buyer, you can request your buyer's contact information, including a phone number. Sometimes a phone call makes communication easier.
2. Receive payment
Always verify payment before you dispatch an item
3. Send the item
Make sure you dispatch your item on time and in good condition. This will help you get positive Feedback and repeat buyers.
  • Post using the P&P method you specified in your listing

  • Pack the item with enough cushioning to ensure that the item arrives safely (see packaging tips)

  • Dispatch with a tracking or delivery confirmation number. If you created a postage label on eBay, the tracking number is available to you and the buyer in My eBay. Providing a tracking number will help protect you if a buyer claims that they never received the item.

4. Leave Feedback
Leaving Feedback after your transaction is complete lets others know what it was like to do business with your buyer. If the transaction didn't proceed the way you expected, try communicating with the buyer to work out a solution.
5. Pay your eBay fees
To make a payment or change your payment method, go to the Account section in My eBay
6. If your item doesn't sell
If your item doesn’t sell, simply relist it. You may even receive an insertion fee credit.
7. If you don't get paid
Open an unpaid item case in our Resolution Centre. This'll help you with getting paid and alert us to any problems with the buyer. If the buyer still doesn't pay, you'll receive a final value fee credit. You'll also be able to relist your item or make a Second Chance offer to another bidder.
8. If you need to cancel the transaction
If you've sold an item but can't go through with the transaction, you can cancel the transaction in our Resolution Centre. If the buyer agrees to cancel, you can receive a final value fee credit and can request a refund.
