Final Value Fee Credits

As a seller, you can request a Final Value Fee credit for the following reasons:

Credit Type

Reason for Credit

Full Credit

  • High bidder/buyer did not respond after you attempted to contact them (please allow at least seven days for them to respond).

  • High bidder/buyer "backed out" and didn't buy the item.

  • High bidder/buyer's cheque bounced or they placed a stop payment on it.

  • High bidder/buyer returned the item and you issued a refund.

  • High bidder/buyer could not buy the item due to family or financial emergency.

  • High bidder/buyer claimed the terms were unacceptable.

Note: Insertion and optional listing fees are generally non-refundable. You may be eligible for an Insertion Fee credit if you relist your item and it sells successfully the second time you list it. Learn more.

Here's how to request a Final Value Fee credit:

  1. File an Unpaid Item dispute. eBay will send the buyer an email reminder with instructions on how to pay. You must file a dispute, even if you have an amicable agreement with the buyer. This is always the first step towards claiming a Final Value Fee credit.

  2. If you do not receive payment immediately, you can communicate with the buyer via the Dispute Console to attempt to complete the transaction.

  3. If the buyer still doesn't pay for the item, please close the dispute by choosing either "I no longer wish to communicate with or wait for the buyer" or "We've agreed not to complete the transaction" (this must be done within 60 days of the end of your listing).

  4. eBay will generally display the credit in your seller account within 7-10 business days. We won't refund the money to your payment method - it will be deducted from your next invoice.

    • If we have any questions about your Final Value Fee credit request we will contact you.

    • Please be sure your credit claim is accurate and valid. Sellers who file false claims will be suspended. Learn more.

    • Information provided in your credit request will be used to identify buyers who bid or use Buy It Now but don't follow through with the sale. For more details, review eBay's Unpaid Item
      Process.

    • If you relist the item, you may qualify for a refund on the relisted item's Insertion Fee. Learn more.
