Selling using a fixed price

When you sell an item at a fixed price, your buyers have the convenience of buying the item immediately at a known price.

Choosing a fixed price format

Depending on whether you want to allow bidding on your item, you can either:

  • Create a fixed price listing, with no bidding allowed

  • Create an auction-style listing and add the option so that buyers can choose whether to buy your item right away or compete in the auction.

With either option your listing will appear whenever buyers search or browse on eBay. The icon next to the item lets buyers know that they can buy it right away.

Summary

Highlights

Fixed price

Buyers can purchase your item immediately at the price you set, but cannot bid on your item.

√ The Buy It Now price is always available.

√ Your item appears when buyers browse and search for items and when they click the Buy It Now tab.

√ You can sell more than one item per listing.

√ You can list multiple items with variations in a single listing.

√ You can let buyers suggest a price they are willing to pay for an item by Selling with Best Offer.

Auction-style format with Buy It Now option

Buyers can purchase your item immediately or place a bid.

Note:  The Buy It Now price must be at least 10% higher than the auction starting price. For eBay Motors, this applies to Parts & Accessories, but not to vehicle listings.

√ The Buy It Now price is available only for a limited time, in most cases until someone bids on the item or the reserve price is met. When the Buy It Now option disappears, the auction proceeds normally.

√ Your listing appears when buyers browse and search for items and when they click the Auctions only or Buy It Now only tabs.

√ You can sell only one item per listing.

Requirements

To sell an item at a fixed price, you must meet certain Feedback requirements and list the item for at least £0.99 or €1.00.

Since PayPal offers buyer protection, Feedback requirements are lower if you have a PayPal account and accept PayPal as a payment method.

Requirements with a PayPal account

Listing a single item at a fixed price

  • A Feedback score greater than zero

  • PayPal accepted as payment method on listing

  • If you’re selling through a Premium or Anchor Shop, you also need to be PayPal Verified.

Listing multiple items at a fixed price

  • A Feedback score greater than zero

  • PayPal accepted as payment method on listing

  • If you’re selling through a Premium or Anchor Shop, you also need to be PayPal Verified.

Requirements without a PayPal account

Listing a single item at a fixed price

  • A Feedback score greater than zero

Listing multiple items at a fixed price

  • A Feedback score greater than zero

  • Registered user for at least 14 days

If you have a PayPal account, make sure it is linked to your eBay account and the email addresses for both accounts match.

To link a PayPal account to your eBay account:
  1. Go to My eBay and click the Account tab

  2. On the left side of the page, click the Addresses link.

  3. Next to your Primary postage address, click the Change link.

  4. Click the Add PayPal Addresses button.

Creating the listing

When you add the listing, select the Customise your listing option. When you reach the Choose how you’d like to sell your item section, choose a Buy It Now format.

  • To add the Buy It Now option to an auction, select the Online Auction tab and enter the Buy It Now price.

  • To sell at a fixed price only, select the Fixed Price tab and enter the Buy It Now price.

If you don’t see the option to enter a Buy It Now price, you don’t meet the requirements for selling at a fixed price.

Fees

Depending on the selling options you select, additional fees may apply:

  • Fixed price listing: You pay an insertion fee based on the Buy It Now price. You do not pay an additional fee for the Buy It Now option.

  • Fixed price listing with a Best Offer option: You pay an insertion fee based on the Buy It Now price. If the item sells at the Best Offer price, the final value fee is based on the offer you accept.

  • Auction-style listing with a Buy It Now option: You pay an insertion fee based on the starting price, plus an additional fee for the Buy It Now option. If you’ve specified a reserve price, the insertion fee is based on the amount you specify.

Changing your listing format

You can’t switch between a fixed price listing and an online auction with a Buy It Now price. However, in some situations, you can add, edit, or remove a Buy It Now price.

  • For auction-style listings: If more than 12 hours remain before the listing ends, you might be able to add, edit, or remove a Buy It Now price as long as the listing has not received any bids.

  • For fixed price listings: You can edit the Buy It Now price.
