Create your listing and start reaching more potential buyers. You do this after you create a seller's account. If you are new to selling on eBay, start at Sell an Item - Getting Started.
To create a listing, you are required to provide only your item's title, description, and price. However, providing pictures, payment options, P&P options, and your return policy makes your listing more attractive to buyers and cuts the time you spend answering questions.
Depending on what you're selling and which selling form you use, you will have a variety of options. For example, some items are already in our product catalogue and you can add pre-filled information from the catalogue to your listing. Listing upgrades can make your listing stand out from the crowd. You can even donate a percentage of your sale to a cause.
Insertion and final value fees apply to certain listings.
Start selling:
1. At the top of any eBay page, click the Sell tab.
2. On the Sell page, click the Start selling button.
3. Sign in. You are now in the Sell Your Item flow.
4. Select a category by searching, browsing, or using a previous category selection. Remember to choose the category most relevant to your item so it’s easy for buyers to find your listing.
Create your listing:
5. Next you’ll be prompted to "Choose a listing form". Select the "More listing choices" or "Keep it simple" form.
If you choose the "Keep it simple" form, you'll have an auction-style listing and can display up to four pictures. The "More listing choices" form provides more selling formats, listing layouts, and other options. To switch forms as you're listing, click "Switch to form with more choices" or "Switch to simple form." If you want to switch to the simple form, just remember that you'll have fewer options and some information might not carry over.
6. Complete the "Create your listing" form. Depending on the listing form, category, or product you've chosen, you'll have various options.
Write a good title and description – Help buyers find your listing with a title that is clear, complete, and descriptive.
State exactly what the item is (even if it repeats the category name).
Include details such as the brand, product name, size, or artist.
Try to use all 55 characters for your title.
Enter Item Specifics – For certain item categories, a form for Item Specifics appears. Providing additional item details within a category helps buyers find your item. An example of an “item specific” is the condition of the item.
Items such as certain books, golf clubs, CDs, video game systems, and mobile phones are associated with products in our growing catalogue. If your item is one of these, you will be offered pre-filled information and a picture from the catalogue. This can save you time and make your item more attractive and visible to buyers.
Upload pictures – Including good quality, evenly lit pictures of your item can help sell your item. You can add and enhance pictures using eBay Picture Hosting.
Select a selling format – Choose from auction-style, Buy It Now, Classified Ad, and Shop Inventory formats.
Donate to your favourite cause – You can contribute a percentage of your sale or all of it through eBay for Charity. In "Choose how you'd like to sell your item," select the charity you'd like to support and decide on the percentage you would like to donate to charity.
Select a price – This includes deciding on a starting price and pricing options such as reserve price and Buy It Now to help you get the price you want for your item.
Select a listing duration – Your listing can last from 1 to 10 days. Most auction listings last seven days.
Provide payment information – Choose the payment methods you’ll accept from buyers. For community safety, PayPal or merchant credit card payment options are required for new sellers.
Provide P&P information – Specify the locations you'll post to and the P&P cost, or say that postage is free for the buyer. You can offer flat-rate costs based on the buyer's location and item information.
Specify your return policy – Buyers are more comfortable shopping from sellers who offer return policies.
Select listing upgrades – Listing upgrades such as bold font, highlights, and borders can help your listing stand out.
7. Preview your item. If you need to change something, click the "Edit listing" link.
8. (Optional) To create a template from the listing, select the "Save this listing as a template” checkbox and use it to sell similar items.
9. Click List Your Item to list your item on eBay.
Note: If you start to create a new listing but aren’t able to finish it, eBay will save it as a draft so you can complete it later. To finish your draft listing, click Sell at the top of most eBay pages, and then click the item title link. If you start a new listing, the draft listing will be deleted, so be sure to finish any listing drafts you want to keep.
You can go back and revise your listing depending on when you do it and if anyone has bid yet. Find out how.
