Selling with PayPal

PayPal is the fast, easy, and secure way to receive payments on eBay. When you list your item with PayPal as a payment method, your buyers can pay you securely online with a credit card or bank account.

PayPal provides:

  • Instant payments on eBay items. You get paid faster than with a cheque or postal order.

  • A comprehensive Seller Protection programme.

  • Online sales management tools and multiple currency functionality.

  • The ability to require Immediate payment for Buy It Now items.

  • The ability to pay your eBay fees automatically from your PayPal account.

  • The ability to send and receive PayPal payments in multiple currencies making it easier to sell internationally

There are no setup fees, no monthly fees and no minimum charge requirements. For sellers, there is a small fee for each payment completed through PayPal. For more information see PayPal Fees .

How to sell with PayPal

You can select PayPal as a payment method and enter your payment address for the buyer from the Sell Your Item form when you list your item.

When your buyer has made their payment, PayPal will send you an email to tell you the payment has been received into your PayPal account. Once the payment has cleared, it will show as "Complete" and it will be reflected in your PayPal balance. You can check your PayPal balance by signing in to your PayPal account .

Important: If you offer PayPal as a payment option on eBay (either using logos or text in the item description) we recommend that you accept all forms of PayPal payment including account balance, bank account transfer and credit cards. You must have a Premier or Business PayPal account - or be willing to upgrade from a Personal PayPal account to a Premier or Business account - if you receive a credit card payment. You may not communicate to eBay buyers that you will only accept specific forms of PayPal payment.

What is a Pending payment?

A payment may show as "Pending" in My eBay for one of the following reasons:

  • The buyer sent their payment to the wrong email address - perhaps you typed your address incorrectly in the “PayPal Payment Option” box when you listed the item. Please contact your buyer to check which email address they sent the payment to.

  • The buyer paid with an echeque. The payment will be "Pending" until the cheque clears. (This takes five to seven working days.)

  • You need to upgrade from a personal to a premier account in order to accept a credit card funded payment.

How to withdraw funds from your PayPal account

Once the payment is complete and shows in your PayPal balance, you can either use the funds to make payments yourself or transfer them to your registered bank account. To do this, click on the “Withdraw Funds” tab from your PayPal account and then click “Transfer funds to your bank account”.

Please note: If you receive an email that you consider to be suspicious please forward it to spoof@paypal.com. Do not click on any links in the email or send any personal information.
