You can use Standard, Basic or Enhanced Picture uploaders to store and display your pictures for your listings. Alternatively, you can also use a Self-hosting service if you want to have your pictures displayed from a different website where you have stored them.
The Basic Uploader can be used on all the recommended operating systems and browser configurations. The Basic Uploader does not compress pictures before upload. Upload time depends on the size of your originals and the speed of your Internet connection.
Standard Uploader – eBay's default picture uploader enables you to add multiple pictures at the same time. It displays detailed status information while uploading is in progress. Installation of Adobe Flash player, version 9 or later is required. Standard uploads pictures at their full size and standardises them for eBay use after upload to eBay servers.
Basic Uploader – An alternative to the Standard Uploader if you don't wish to install or use Flash. Basic uploads pictures at their full size and standardises them for eBay use after upload to eBay servers.
Enhanced Uploader – Enables you to crop, rotate, and adjust your pictures from the selling form before uploading them. For large, original pictures, the uploader processes picture sizes, and then uploads them to eBay servers for standardising to reduce upload time. Internet Explorer 6 or later on Windows 2000 or later is required.
Self Hosting – Allows you to host your pictures on your own web server or on a web hosting service.
Note: If you are new to eBay, only the Standard or Basic Uploader is displayed, depending on whether or not you have Adobe Flash Player, version 9 or later installed already. To use the Enhanced Uploader or Self Hosting, select the “Show/Hide Options” link, from the top, right-hand corner of the “Create Your Listing” page, and then select the check box for “Show eBay Enhanced Picture Services options” or “Host pictures on your server instead of eBay servers”.
Tip: Before you start the upload process, rename your photo files with meaningful names and collect them in a central place on your computer so that, when you browse, you can locate them more quickly and easily.
In the Bring your pictures to life section, click the Add Pictures button. A pop-up window will be displayed that defaults to the Standard tab (the Basic tab will be displayed if your computer doesn't include the Flash software required for the Standard Uploader).
Click the Browse button on the Standard (example A) or Basic Uploaders and search for the picture that you want to upload.
The Choose file screen will be displayed with a list of pictures that can be uploaded.
Select the picture that you want to upload, and then click the Open button (example B).
The Standard tab page will be displayed with the picture you've selected for upload (example C). Alternatively, if you have trouble using the Standard Uploader, or haven't installed Flash, version 9 or later, you can click the Try the Basic Uploader link in the top right to switch to the Basic Uploader.
Click the Upload button (example D).
The picture will be uploaded to the Bring your item to life with pictures section of the Create your listing page (example E).
If you are using Windows 2000 and Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, you can use the eBay Enhanced Uploader.
Note: You will need to select Show/Hide Options, on the Sell: Create Your Listing page, to enable the Enhanced Uploader (see the Screen above).
In the Bring your pictures to life section, click the Add Pictures button.
Click the Enhanced tab and then click the Add Pictures button. The Open screen will be displayed with a list of pictures for you to choose from.
Select the picture that you want to upload and then click the Open button (example A).
The picture will be displayed under the Enhanced tab (example B).
You can make edits to the picture such as rotating, cropping, or adjusting the contrast and brightness of the picture before uploading by clicking an icon above the large picture preview.
Note: eBay does not automatically overwrite and upload pictures that you have retaken or edited on your computer. In order to edit or replace a picture, you must delete the existing picture and upload the picture again.
Instead of uploading your pictures to eBay, you can use another web service to host your pictures. Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) may give you some space on the web where you can store your pictures. The Sell Your Item form has a field where you can enter the web address (URL) of a picture hosted on the Web. That picture will be displayed in your listing. To display more than one externally hosted picture on eBay, you will have to use HTML in your listing.
Your picture file size should be under 50 KB (kilobytes) so that your item page will load quickly enough not to inconvenience buyers on slower Internet connections.
File transfer software, such as WS_FTP for PCs (includes eBay user reference guide) or Fetch Softworks for Macs may be required for uploading your picture file to your ISP or hosting service.
When you use eBay Picture Hosting, you can choose to add these additional options for a small fee to enhance your listing presentation.
