Making Picture Perfect images for the Gallery Making images appear in the patent-pending Gallery is easy: you can either place a valid picture URL that references a .jpg file in the Picture URL field of the Add Your Item page:
Or, you can enter a valid picture URL referencing a .jpg, .bmp, or .tif file in the Gallery URL field at the end of the Add Your Item page. You'll find that the image you place in the Gallery can go a long way in helping sell your item! When potential buyers browse the listings in the Gallery, they'll be looking for images that make them want to learn more about that item for sale. There are some things you should remember when entering a picture URL for the Gallery. Here are some guidelines. No gifs! The only pictures that appear in the Gallery are those in the .jpg, .bmp, or .tif format. .jpg images, in particular, are especially appropriate for photographs because they reduce the image's size while maintaining its clarity. Review your item descriptionBe sure that you've looked over the item description very carefully when you are confirming the item you are listing for sale. The picture you see on the "Add Your Item" review page will be the picture we use to create your thumbnail. If your picture does not appear in the review page, it is very likely we won't be able to see it, so we won't be able to create a thumbnail for it. That means it won't appear in the Gallery. If your image does not appear in the review page, go back to the "Add Your Item" page and make sure you've entered your picture's URL correctly. Do not use compound imagesPeople sometimes include more than one image collage their images into a single jpg file. This is fine if you include your picture within your item's description, but this doesn't reduce well to a thumbnail view. It's best to only use an image containing only one photo for the picture you put into your Picture URL. Crop your image maximumCrop the image if you can, so that is shows only the best features of your item. Cropping your image requires that you use image editing software. If you don't have access to this software, or do not know how to use this kind of software, your image will still appear in the View by Photo mode. However, you will notice an improvement in the quality of your image if you are able to crop it. It might be fine to see lots of empty space around your image when it is large, but when it gets reduced to a thumbnail size, that empty space will be wasteful. Thumbnails in the Gallery are 96 pixels wide and 96 pixels tall, so a square crop is ideal. Featured Gallery images are 140 pixels by 140 pixels, and they appear randomly at the top of each Gallery page. As much as you can, try to have images that are as square as possible. For example, long images don't look as good as square images in the Gallery.
