What is the PayPal Free Listing Day promotion?
The PayPal Free Listing Day promotion allows sellers to get credit for PayPal transaction fees and eBay insertion fees when they list on eBay.co.uk and get paid using PayPal.
Fees will be credited for auction-style and fixed-price listings with closing prices of £1,000 or less. Items must be listed on 12 June 2003, between 12:00:001 am to 11:59:59 pm BST, and payment must be completed through PayPal by 11 July 2003, 11:59:59 pm BST.
Who can participate?
Any seller in good standing with both PayPal and eBay who lists on eBay.co.uk on 12 June 2003 can participate in this promotion.
Which fees will be credited?
For PayPal: Receiving fees and cross-border fees will be credited. Other fees, including withdrawal or return fees, are not included.
For eBay: Only standard insertion fees will be credited. Optional feature fees such as Gallery, Bold, Reserve Price, Featured, Buy It Now, or Final Value fees are not included.
How do I select PayPal on the Sell Your Item form?
Under the Payments and Postage section, simply select the PayPal preference and enter an email address that is associated with your PayPal account in the space provided.
How do my buyers pay me through PayPal?
Buyers can pay you by clicking on a PayPal payment logo you've inserted in your listings, through PayPal's Winning Buyer Notification (WBN) emails, or through eBay Checkout. Buyers can also make a payment from the Send Money tab on the PayPal website, as long as the eBay Item Number is included. Payments for your eligible listings must be completed by 11 July 2003, 11:59:59 pm BST.
How can I encourage my buyers to pay with PayPal for my PayPal Free Listing Day items?
Both eBay and PayPal have a number of helpful tools to help you communicate your payment preference to buyers. Be sure to:
- Select PayPal as your sole payment preference on eBay's Sell Your Item form
- Specify your preference for PayPal in your Payment Instructions
- Add a PayPal logo with Switch/Solo and credit card icons to your listing
- To do this, click on: https://www.paypal.com/MANUALOGOS and log in to your PayPal account, then follow the simple instructions for inserting the logos of your choice
- Sign up for PayPal's Winning Buyer Notification, and customize your email with your payment instructions. Within minutes after your listing has closed, PayPal will automatically send the email to your winning buyer. (For more information, visit the Auction Tools tab on the PayPal website.)
What if I don't have a PayPal account?
It's easy to sign up. Just go to https://www.paypal.com for more information or to get started. If you live in the UK. or elsewhere outside the US, be sure to click the 'non-US sign up' link at the top of the registration page.

Are scheduled listings included in the promotion?
Yes, previously scheduled listings that go live on 12 June 2003 are eligible for insertion fee credits as long as they are listed and paid for with PayPal. Scheduled listings that are submitted but not scheduled to go live on 12 June 2003 will NOT be eligible for credit.
Can I participate in both the Free Listing Day promotion and the Switch/Solo promotion?
Yes, but your PayPal transaction fees will be credited only once. If you fulfil the Switch/Solo promotion requirements (see www.ebay.co.uk/paypal), your PayPal account will not be charged the standard transaction fees. PayPal will not credit your account again for this transaction in the Free Listing Day refund process.
What if I ask to be paid with PayPal, but my buyer doesn't have a PayPal account?
Your buyer may sign up for a PayPal account at any time, even once the listing has closed. However, if the buyer doesn't complete payment with PayPal by 11 July 2003 11:59:59 pm BST, all standard fees are applicable.
What if I ask to be paid with PayPal, but my buyer chooses an alternative payment method?
If your buyer does not pay for your Free Listing Day item with PayPal, standard eBay and PayPal fees apply.
What if the PayPal payment has been started, but not completed, by the 11 July 2003 deadline?
Pending, cancelled or uncleared payments that are not completed within the promotion period are not eligible. To be properly credited, please ensure that the eBay Item Number appears in your PayPal payment (for most transactions, this is automatically included).
Which fees are credited if I list an item in two categories and get paid with PayPal?
If you list the same item in two categories and receive payment through PayPal by 11 July 2003 11:59:59 pm BST, you will receive both insertion fee credits for listing in two categories.
Are all categories included in this promotion?
Yes, all categories are included. However, transactions with a closing price above £1,000 are not eligible.
Are eBay Shops listings included in the promotion?
Yes, eBay Shops listings are included.
Are multiple item listings included?
Yes, as long as the promotion terms are satisfied, you will receive credit for your eligible multiple item transactions.
Will I receive insertion fee credits if I list with Turbo Lister, Selling Manager, or other bulk listing tools?
Yes, as long as you list and get paid with PayPal, it doesn't matter which tool you use.
Am I eligible for an insertion fee credit if the winning buyer lives outside the UK?
Yes, as long as your buyer completes payment with PayPal by 23:59:59 BST 11 July 2003, you are eligible for an insertion fee credit.
I don't live in the UK. Can I still participate in this promotion?
Yes, as long as you list on eBay.co.uk and satisfy the other promotion terms, you can participate in this promotion.
When will the fees be credited?
Fees will be credited to both your eBay and PayPal accounts by 31 July 2003.
How will the insertion fee credits appear in my eBay account?
The credits will appear on your eBay Account Status page by 31 July 2003, under the credit type 'PayPal Free Listing Day Insertion Fee Credit'.
How will the transaction fee credits appear in my PayPal account?
The credits will appear in your PayPal account by 31 July 2003 as a single lump sum deposit. Receiving fees and cross-border fees for all eligible transactions will be aggregated into one payment under the credit type 'PayPal Balance Adjustment'.
Am I responsible for paying my entire eBay invoice amount prior to receiving my PayPal Free Listing Day insertion fee credits?
Yes. Even though you may be eligible to receive the insertion fee credits, you are still responsible for paying your current eBay invoice amount in full. Failure to do so may result in your account being placed on hold for non-payment. Your Free Listing Day insertion fee credits will be applied to your account by 31 July 2003, and will be reflected in your following eBay invoice.
