PayPal Seller Protection
PayPal Seller Protection is designed to protect sellers from losses arising from fraudulent buyer activity.
It covers cases where a buyer falsely claims that an item was not sent or a buyer issues a chargeback fraudulently. A chargeback is where a buyer asks their credit card company to cancel a credit card payment on their behalf.
Most payment companies pass on all transaction liabilities to the seller. However, PayPal's Seller Protection helps you reduce your exposure to this kind of risk - free of charge!
How does it work?
UK sellers are protected as long as they have either a Premier or Business account and comply with the conditions of the UK Seller Protection Policy:
- Ensure the transaction is "SPP Eligible". Transactions that are covered by Seller Protection will be displayed as "SPP: Eligible" on the Transaction Details page
- Post the item to the address shown on the Transaction Details page
- Use a method of postage that can be tracked online
- Accept payment from only one PayPal account
- Post the item to a UK or US buyer at an address within the UK or the US
- Post the item within 7 days of receiving payment
- Do not impose a surcharge (additional fee for using PayPal) on the buyer
Seller protection is not currently available to sellers in the Republic of Ireland. Find out more about Seller Protection.
