Focus on selling

Easy shopping for buyers—great exposure for sellers

Shopping for items in categories like Movies & DVDs, Music, Mobile Phones, Consoles, Digital Cameras and Camcorders will be easier than ever with eBay’s new product pages. Which means easier shopping for buyers – and great exposure for sellers.

Best practices for selling on eBay product pages
Get maximum exposure for your listings on the new eBay product pages and on search results pages

  • List with product details whenever they’re available. That’s what gets your listings on the product pages. Product pages have higher sell-through rates than search results pages.
  • Price competitively! Price is one of the main factors in determining the position of your listing on the product pages.
  • Use Subtitle to help your items stand out by using Subtitle to provide more information on the condition of your item. Subtitles show up on the new product page.
  • Use long-duration, Buy It Now listings for your multiple-quantity products and add inventory to your existing listings rather than create new ones. This helps you build recent sales.
  • Use Auction-style listings for unique or one-of-a-kind items. Auction-style listings get a boost in Best Match search results when they're about to end.
Frequently Asked Questions

Matching Products Module

What is the Matching Products module and when does it appear?
The Matching Products module appears at the top of the search results page when eBay finds products in high demand that are relevant to the buyer's search query. The Matching Products module tells buyers how many listings are available for that product and the price range.

What is the difference between a “product” and a “listing”?
A listing is an individual item for sale by a seller. A product is a group of listings (regardless of price), usually items with identical product details, available from a number of different sellers.

How are products sorted in the Matching Products module?
The products in the Matching Products module are sorted by Best Match. The product that is considered most relevant will display in the first position.

How is the “From” price on the Matching Products module calculated?
The “From” price on the Matching Products module is automatically re-calculated every 15 minutes. The system looks for the lowest Buy It Now listing and the lowest priced Auction-style listing ending within the next 15 minutes.

How is the number of items available calculated?
The number of items available in the Matching Products module is also automatically re-counted every 15 minutes.

Product page

What is a product page and when does it appear?
This product page is the page that appears when a buyer clicks on a Matching Products module in search results. The product page shows buyers common information about the product at the top, community reviews, and the items available for purchase.

Why does eBay have product pages?
When buyers search for popular products, they prefer to see matching results consolidated on one page. Product pages get higher sell-through rates than search results pages.

How can I get my listings to show up on a product page?
To have your item appear on the product page, you need to list using product details in the Sell Your Item form, Turbo Lister, File Exchange, or the eBay Application Programming Interface.

Does my listing appear both on the product page and in the search results list that appears below the Matching Products module?
Yes, listings that show up on product pages will also show up in search results.

How is the order of listings determined on the product page?
The product page is sorted by Best Match. The first four listings are the four most relevant items. Buyers can change the sort order by selecting another option in the "Sort by" drop-down list.

“See more matching products” page

What is the page I see when I click the “See more matching products” link?
“See more matching products” shows listings that are relevant to your search term. Items listed without product details are grouped separately, but in the same list. The products appear at the top of the results list, followed by the non-product listings.

How are the products and non-product listings chosen for the “See more matching products” list?
“See more matching products” uses the same criteria as search results: it displays products and non-product listings relevant to the buyer’s search terms. For example, if a buyer searches for iPod nano, “See more matching products” will show both product and non-product listings relevant to “iPod nano”.

Why are products grouped above non-product listings in “See more matching products”?
Since the Matching Products module only appears when there is high product demand, and because the buyer has clicked the “See more matching products” link, we place the products at the top of the search results.

How does a buyer get to the “See more matching products” page?
Currently the only way for buyers to access the ”See more matching products” page from within eBay is by clicking the “See more matching products” link in the Matching Products module. The page is also accessible from Google and other search engines through links and eBay advertising placements.

What types of listings are displayed in the “See more matching products” page?
After the products, the listings displayed in the “See more matching products” page are non-product listings that match the buyer's query, but the seller did not list with product details. These items should truly be non-product inventory such as unique items that match the user’s query, for example, the “Apple” t-shirt or the Harry Potter snitch.

Is it possible for an item that is a product but wasn’t listed with product details to be displayed in the “See more matching products” page?
Yes. ”See more matching products page” displays listings that match the buyers search query but were not listed with product details. If someone is selling something that should be listed with a product but isn’t, they will be shown at the bottom. Listing with product details gives you better exposure on both the product page and in search results.

How does a buyer distinguish a product from a listing in the “See more matching products” page?
Products appear first in the search results list and will always display the number of available listings in orange numbers. Listings do not have an orange number showing the count.

How is the “See more matching products” page sorted?
The “See more matching products page” is sorted by Best Match. The product that is considered the most relevant is displayed at the top of the result set.
