Good news - free pictures

We’re pleased to announce that from the end of June all pictures for listings in the Clothes, Shoes & Accessories and Home & Garden categories will be free.

  • Free Gallery Plus
  • Free Supersize
  • Free additional standard pictures
  • Free Picture Pack

If you currently host your photos somewhere other than eBay, now is a great time to start moving them over to eBay Picture Services (EPS).  Unlike other picture hosting services, eBay lets you show multiple pictures high up on the item page (known as "above the fold", meaning most people will be able to see pictures without having to scroll down the page).  Later this year, if you host your pictures on eBay using EPS, you'll be able to take advantage of the new zoom feature.

Including pictures really helps your items sell, so this is an excellent opportunity to upload more photos and get your buyers more interested in your listings. Take advantage of our free pictures by following our simple best picture practice tips.

Tips for taking pictures that work harder

Photo Dos

  • Use proper lighting to light the entire item thoroughly
  • Use an uncluttered background that contrasts with the item
  • Use a medium resolution (for example, 1280x960 pixels) for good quality and faster uploading
  • Photograph items at close range and at an angle.
  • Use multiple photos so buyers can see details like tabs, labels, original packaging, and accessories
  • Include scale where appropriate
  • If the item has any flaws, wear, or damage be sure to document it with a photo
  • Consider using a tripod to take sharp pictures using indoor lighting without flash

Photo Don'ts

  • Don’t copy pictures (without permission) from another eBay seller or manufacturer/retailer.
  • Don’t photograph using flash if your item is reflective—like a mirror or the glass on a framed picture.
  • Don’t use flash or avoid relying on it.
  • If an automatic flash comes on, it means that you need another light source or that there isn't enough natural light.

New Copy Web Files feature makes it easier to add pictures to listings
We’ve introduced a new upload option for eBay-hosted item pictures. It's called "Copy Web Files" and it will make adding pictures to your listings much easier if you manage your pictures on a web server.

The Copy Web Files tab in Add Pictures is hidden by default. To add it, use the "Add or remove options" link in the pictures section of the "Create your listing" page of the Sell Your Item form.  Once you've added it, you'll see a new tab in the Add Pictures window on the Sell Your Item form.

Any applicable picture fees are the same when using Copy Web Files as for pictures uploaded with other uploaders. The first picture is always free. Additional pictures and other upgrade fees vary.
