Streamlined process for unpaid items
Today, if a buyer doesn’t pay, you can open an “unpaid item” case through the eBay Resolution centre. But this September we’re introducing important changes to this process to make it faster and more efficient.
- The form to start an unpaid item case will be shorter and easier to fill out.
- The email communications in the new process will be clearer, more neutral in tone and will come from eBay instead of the seller or buyer.
- Timelines for the unpaid item process will also be made shorter.
- By eliminating many of the emails and “back-and-forth steps the new process will cut the maximum time it takes to resolve a dispute roughly in half - from as long as 60 days to about 30 days.

- Consider requiring immediate payment with eBay checkout.

How do I start the unpaid item process?
At the moment, the process is manual. If your buyer hasn’t paid, simply click the link for the Resolution Centre at the bottom of most eBay pages, or click “Open an Unpaid Item Case” from the drop-down menu next to the item in My eBay or Selling Manager.
How can I avoid having an unpaid item in the first place?
- Describe your item accurately.
- Include clear, good quality photographs.
- Include all costs such as tax and shipping in the listing so the buyer knows what to pay.
- Require Immediate Payment for your Fixed Price items.
