Frequently Asked Questions
2. How can I take part?
It’s very simple. When listing an item click “Donate a portion to charity” in the listing flow, add your charity of choice and pick your donation percentage before finalising your listing.
3. What sort of things can I sell?
You can donate part of your sale to charity every time you sell on eBay, no matter what the item.
4. Is eBay donating to charity as part of the campaign?
eBay is donating £5 for every £1 a customer donates to charity through Community Selling, between 1st - 20th December. This will be capped at £500,000 in total and at £25,000 per charity.
5. What if I don’t donate exactly £1?
eBay will quintuple the full donation amount, so £1.40 donated will result in eBay donating £7.
6. When do I need to have donated by?
Your sale must have completed by the 20th December for your donation to be quintupled by eBay, so be mindful of the duration of your auction listing. Any donation after this date will still be sent to the charity, as is the usual process with Community Selling, and which you can do all year round.
7. How will eBay’s donations be distributed?
eBay will prioritise distributing donations pledged to charities that have officially opted into the campaign, and funds will be distributed on a first come first serve basis. If there are funds remaining, eBay will distribute these equally amongst those charities that customers donated to via ‘Community Selling’ over the campaign duration but which did not opt-in to the campaign.
8. What if more money is raised than is needed to hit eBay’s pledged £500,000?
eBay will monitor donations and if £100,000 is reached, it will update onsite campaign marketing materials removing reference to eBay’s commitment to match £5 for every £1 donated. Although eBay will use reasonable efforts to ensure that all information relating to the campaign is accurate, eBay is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunctions of any communications network, online system or computer hardware or software failure that may affect eBay\'s operation of the campaign, including, without limitation, the accuracy of any marketing materials and donation monitoring.
9. What if I want to rescind my donation or cancel the sale?
It is possible to rescind your donation, whether that’s because of a change of heart or you have cancelled the sale. You can learn more about this here.
10. When will charities receive the funds?
Charities will receive your donation within a few weeks, and after the buyer has paid. Our partners at PayPal Giving Fund will automatically send the donation to your selected charity and send you a donation receipt.
Charities will receive the pledged donations from eBay by the 31st December 2020.
