We’re passionate about helping charities fundraise on eBay. Last year, we empowered over 11,000 charities to raise £31 million through eBay for Charity, with £27m raised directly from charities selling on the platform.

Charity Connect has already helped hundreds of UK charity sellers improve online fundraising capabilities, and aims to support even more charities boost unrestricted funding through selling on eBay.

Starting in September 2021, participating charities will receive tailored training through virtual 1:1 and group support, webinars, dedicated customer service, e-learning materials and promotional support.

eBay specialists will deliver a comprehensive training programme to guide you through everything you need to know about selling on eBay. This includes training from external consultants and service providers in topics helpful to drive awareness of your eBay store, like advertising and social media. Training will be via webinars, virtual 1:1 and group training and self-learning materials.

Why eBay for Charity?

eBay for Charity connects over 11,000 UK charities to supporters, providing a shop window to 187 million active buyers across the world. This helps charities raise vital funds to deliver essential campaigns and services for change.


In 2020, almost £31m was raised by the eBay UK community, with £27m directly from charities selling on the platform. To date, $1.1 billion has been raised globally through eBay for Charity, with £199 million raised for UK charities since 2007.


eBay sellers can also donate a percentage of the proceeds to a charity of their choice, with eBay crediting the equivalent percentage in fees. Plus, buyers can add a donation to their purchase during checkout.

Frequently Asked Questions

When do I need to submit an application? 

Applications are open for submission from 09.00 on Monday 2 August and will close at 23.59 on Sunday 15 August 2021. Applications submitted beyond this date will not be considered. 

Who can apply to the Charity Connect programme? 

Any UK charities with a trading operation can apply to Charity Connect. You will need to be registered with eBay for Charity in order to take part in the programme. If you are not yet registered, you can find instructions for doing so here.

If accepted, do I need to do anything prior to the Charity Connect programme starting? 

In order to participate in training, you will need to have set up an eBay business account and have completed the onboarding process for eBay managed payments by Monday 13 September 2021. More information on eBay managing payments can be found here.

How many people from my charity can apply?

Please only submit one application per charity. However, you may invite multiple members from your charity onto the programme if you are successful.

When will I find out whether my application has been successful? 

You will receive an email 23 August - W/C 30 August to let you know if your application has been successful.

What criteria will my application be assessed against?

There are limited spaces available on the Charity Connect programme and the final selection of successful applicants is at eBay's sole discretion. We will be reviewing applications against the ambition of the charity to develop their e-commerce offering as well as their capacity to effectively take part in the training programme, for instance having staff available for training calls and regular access to inventory to sell. 

When does the programme start and finish?

The programme will begin from W/C 6 September 2021 until W/C 28 February 2022.

How many hours per week should I dedicate to the programme? 

You will be required to devote at least two hours of your working week (either directly or via a dedicated staff) to the training throughout the duration of the programme. This time includes calls with your trainer and reviewing training resources, in addition to putting into practice the tips and skills provided by the training during your normal working day. 

I have participated in the Charity Connect programme before, am I allowed to apply again? 

We are accepting applications from all charities, but charities who have completed the programme already will need to specify on their application form why they were unable to take advantage of the training the first time round.

Charity Connect Terms & Conditions

Charity Connect is a free 6-month programme which offers participating charity retailers training through a bespoke curriculum to launch and grow on eBay.

For your application to be considered, you need to agree to the terms and conditions in the application form, which are also found below.

Eligibility criteria for the Charity Connect programme is as follows:

  1. Charities must be a registered UK charity with a trading operation.
  2. Charities must be registered with eBay for Charity with an eBay business account by Monday 13 September 2021, and have eBay managing their payments. 

There are limited spaces available on the Charity Connect programme and the final selection of successful applicants is at eBay's sole discretion. We will be reviewing applications against the ambition of the charity to develop their e-commerce offering as well as their capacity to effectively take part in the training programme, for instance having staff available for training calls and regular access to inventory to sell. 

Participating charities agree to:

  1. Be registered with eBay for Charity with an eBay business account by Monday 13 September 2021, and have eBay managing their payments. More information on eBay managing payments can be found here
  2. Be an active participant throughout the duration of the programme (W/C 6 September 2021 until W/C 28 February 2022).
  3. Attend and participate in all training offered by eBay.
  4. Devote at least two hours of their working week (either directly or via a dedicated staff person) to the training throughout the duration of the programme. This time includes calls with your trainer and reviewing training resources, in addition to putting into practice the tips and skills provided by the training during your normal working day. 
  5. Participate in survey research that will help eBay for Charity measure the effectiveness of the programme and make needed improvements.
  6. Complete the Starter Form before training commences, and Evaluation Form at the end of the training period. 
  7. Abide by eBay’s User Agreement and Selling Policies and understand that any violation may be grounds for expulsion from the programme and/or platform.

eBay will provide:

  1. A comprehensive training curriculum that covers core eBay skills and areas, as well as strategies to best utilise eBay’s platform and tools to boost income. Training will cover Seller Hub dashboard, Seller Standards, Listing Optimisation, Shipping and International Sales, Marketing Research, Promoted Listings, Promotional Tools and account-specific training, alongside training from external consultants and service providers in topics helpful to drive awareness of your eBay store, like advertising and social media. Training will be provided via:
    1. 1:1 and group sessions
    2. Webinars 
    3. Learning materials
  2. A dedicated customer support team to provide technical and strategic guidance and conduct regular checkups on the health and performance of each charity’s eBay business.
  3. Where possible and appropriate, exposure through social media promotions and PR for select charity sellers.
  4. A one-year complimentary Shop subscription subject to the eBay Shops terms and conditions. This subscription will automatically renew at the end of the programme, at which time sellers may:
    1. Continue the subscription level or opt for a different level, both options at their own expense
    2. Cancel the subscription
