eBay is managing payments

Welcome to the simpler way to sell on eBay.

What does it mean when eBay manages payments?

Managing payments enhances the buying and selling experience on eBay providing sellers with one place to sell and buyers more ways to pay. We’ve managed billions in payments for thousands of sellers since 2018. eBay will require all sellers to register for eBay to manage their payments in 2021.

  • Simpler to sell: Checkout is more flexible, with new payment options for buyers
  • Simpler fees: Fees are collected from your sales
  • Simpler to manage: You’ll find everything you need to manage your business—reports, returns, claims and disputes—all in one place

When you receive a notification from us, we recommend you register before the deadline to avoid any interruption to your account. This process consists of a few simple steps, and once you have registered, we will send you further details about how to prepare your business and take full advantage of our simpler approach to payments.

If you’re notified that payouts will go to a Payoneer account

eBay will be partnering with Payoneer, a leader in global payments, to enable sellers in select countries to easily receive funds associated with their transactions on eBay. This partnership will allow sellers to manage all their transactions on eBay, providing a streamlined selling experience, while also providing flexibility in managing funds. If you have an existing Payoneer account, you will be able to link it to your eBay account during registration for eBay to manage payments. If you don’t have a Payoneer account, you will be asked to create one during registration. Proceeds from eBay sales, regardless of the payment option used by the buyer, will be deposited directly to your Payoneer account in US dollars.

Additional information may be requested by Payoneer after your registration is complete. Learn more.

If you’re notified that your payouts will go to a bank account

During the registration process you can choose to add any bank account - whether existing or new. Please ensure that the name, address, and business information (if applicable) on your bank account matches the name and information on your eBay account.

eBay will work closely with sellers to ensure that the new payments experience reflects their needs as we continue to enable accounts to have payments processed by eBay.

Benefits for sellers

eBay managing payments simplifies the buying and selling experience on eBay by delivering multiple enhancements, such as:

  • Choice: Buyers have new payment options: credit and debit cards; Apple Pay; Google Pay; and PayPal, as well as other locally accepted forms of payment depending on the listing site.
  • Convenience: Access everything you need, all in one place: consolidated fees, customised reports, refunds, returns, and simplified protections. If you use third-party tools, there should be no change to how you use them.
  • Streamlined operations: Payouts directly into your bank account or Payoneer account. Get unique order numbers for ease of reconciliation and returns processing
  • Reporting: Updated reports available for download and export from Seller Hub, and data to reconcile transaction records with your Payoneer account or bank account, depending on where your payouts are sent.
  • API integration: Those who integrate using eBay APIs can update their integrations to view payout information.
  • Dedicated support: Get expert support during the sign-up process and whenever you need help.

Once you register, nothing will change until eBay activates your account. We will notify you of your activation date in advance, and will be sharing more information about the change, how it will benefit your business, and how to take full advantage of our new, simpler approach to payments.

As a reminder, eBay will require all sellers to register for eBay to manage their payments in 2021.

Managed Payments Overview FAQs

What does it mean when eBay manages payments?

When eBay manages payments, you can sell in one place, on eBay, and buyers have more ways to pay. You can schedule payouts at a frequency you choose (daily, as funds are available, or weekly). Regardless of how the buyer pays, payouts are initiated Monday through Friday, within 2 business days of when the buyer pays. If Payouts are made to your Payoneer account, they will be made in US dollars. If payouts are made to your bank account, they will be made in euros.

Do I have to sign up with a new payment provider?

Yes, if you’ve been notified your payouts will go to a Payoneer account, you will have two options. If you have an existing Payoneer account, you will be able to link it to your eBay account during the registration process for eBay to manage your payments. If you don’t have a Payoneer account, you can easily set one up during the registration process.

Note: The above does not apply to you if you have been notified that your payouts will go to a bank account.
If your payouts will go to a bank account, when eBay manages your payments, the only relationship is with eBay, not with any third-party payment processor. This applies to both buyers and sellers. You just need to add a bank account to receive your payouts.

Regardless of if your payouts are sent to a Payoneer or bank account buyers will still pay like they would on any other e-commerce marketplace.

Fees FAQs

What does it mean for my seller fees when eBay manages my payments?

Your seller fees will continue to be based on the published rates on each eBay site that you list on. eBay will charge an updated final value fee when your item sells. The final value fee consists of a category-based percentage of the total amount of the sale (including shipping, taxes, and any other applicable fees), plus a fixed fee per order. An international fee and currency conversion charges may apply; however, you will no longer pay PayPal processing fees.

Payouts

When and how will I receive my payouts?

eBay sends a message when your buyer has paid and it’s time for you to ship your order. eBay makes the funds from your sale available within 2 business days after confirming the buyer’s payment. You may choose to receive payouts of available funds daily or weekly.

If you receive payouts to your payoneer account

Regardless of how the buyer pays, payouts are initiated within 2 business days (Monday through Friday, excluding bank holidays) of order confirmation. Once a payout is initiated, funds will be available in your account within minutes.

If you receive payouts to your bank account

Please note: eBay only sends payouts to your bank on business days (Monday through Friday, excluding bank holidays). eBay deducts fees and expenses related to your sales from your funds prior to payout. Examples of eBay selling fees include but are not limited to: insertion fees, promoted listings, listing upgrades, and Store subscription fees.

You will find details of your payouts, including all related fees and expenses, in the Reports section of Seller Hub or the Seller Dashboard section of My eBay.

If you choose to receive payouts daily, eBay sends payouts of available funds to your bank within 2 business days after confirming your buyer’s payment. In the event of a bank holiday, eBay will make the payout on the following business day.

If you choose to receive payouts weekly, eBay sends payouts of available funds to your bank on Tuesdays. If a Tuesday falls on a bank holiday, eBay will make the payout on the following business day.

Once eBay sends payouts, your bank will generally take 1-3 additional business days to make the funds from these payouts available to you.

Do I have to open a Payoneer account?
