How to list sizes on eBay

Available standard size values vary by category and eBay site. The supported standardised sizes are the values shown in the Size dropdown when creating or revising a listing.

For sellers using the API

If you list through an API or third-party tool, use these steps to find the size values eBay accepts for your category.

1. Find the correct leaf category for your item, as supported size values depend on the category.
2. Call getItemAspectsForCategory for that leaf category to retrieve the supported item specifics.
3. In the response, find the Size aspect and use its returned values as the accepted standard sizes.
   • If a size value is not returned for that category, do not send it in your listing request.
   • If both Size Type and Size are mandatory, send only a valid Size Type and Size combination and do not send only one half of the pair.
4. Build your listing payload using only the supported standard values returned by the API and avoid custom or made-up size values.
   • If the exact labelled or branded size is not available, choose the closest supported size and add extra sizing detail in the title, description, measurements or optional item specifics.

For questions specific to your third-party tool or integration, work directly with your third-party provider.

Important for API sellers: You may see Taxonomy API metadata that describes Size as FREE_TEXT. This does not mean that any size value can be used when listing. Use the standardised values returned by the API or shown in the listing-flow Size dropdown as the source of truth.

eBay may standardise a common size

Where possible, eBay may change a common size value to its supported equivalent—for example, “Medium” may become “M.” Review your listing to make sure the size still represents your item. Select a different supported size if needed.

You may need to update the listing

If eBay cannot confidently match the size to a supported value, the listing may not be visible to buyers until the size is updated. To make the listing visible to buyers again, revise the listing and select the supported size that best represents your item.

Sellers will be notified by email if a listing is hidden from buyers. They can also visit the Issue Resolution Centre in Seller Hub to view any outstanding policy issues, understand which listings are affected and see the steps needed to resolve them. Good ‘Til Cancelled listings remain hidden from search until you select a supported size.

If eBay can’t confidently match the size to a supported value, your listing may be hidden from buyers. To make it visible again, revise the listing and select the supported size that best represents your item.

For existing clothing and footwear listings covered by this update, eBay checks only the required Size field. If that field contains a supported size, information in additional fields—such as EU Size or UK Size—won’t affect the size check or cause your listing to be hidden for this reason.

Before 26 August, eBay is updating existing listings when a size can be confidently changed to a supported value—for example, “Lg” to “L.” A final update is planned shortly before enforcement begins to catch as many eligible listings as possible.

After 26 August, eBay may still automatically update some simple, recognisable size values on new listing requests—for example, “Small” to “S.” However, this will be limited, so you should not rely on every size being updated automatically. When creating or revising a listing, select the supported size that best represents your item.
