Stand Up Paddleboard

Before you head out

- Always wear a buoyancy aid that meets the ISO Standard 12402.

- Use a leash appropriate for the environment you're paddling in. For white water environments, no leash should be worn.

- Carry a mobile phone in a waterproof case to call for help if needed.

- Know your limits and don't push beyond your skill or fitness level.

- Tell someone where you're going and what time you expect to be back.

- Check the weather forecast before and during your trip, paying special attention to offshore winds and avoiding them.

On the water

- Be aware of changing weather conditions, tides, and currents.

- Stay clear of any weir, buoys, branches and pontoons or other obstacles

- If you fall into the water, stay calm and keep hold of your board where possible.

Choosing and maintaining your equipment

If you’re buying a paddleboard, especially a second-hand one:

- Check the board for damage, leaks, or wear that could affect safety.

- Make sure the board is properly sealed and does not take in water.

- Inspect the paddle and fittings to ensure they are secure and in good condition.

- Test any adjustable parts to confirm they work correctly.
